we haven't changed our logo in 12 years!!! if you look at the helmet project (or the wallpaper that I created recently), our current logo is the most "stable" helmet logo we've ever had!!! it's the folks that keep complaining about how our current logo lacks no tradition that don't realize, in all actuality, it's the most traditional logo our football team's ever seen...

Oh come on, give it another dozen years and someone's bound to start recognizing what that mid 90's design on our helmet symbolizes/says, right?? You'd think with our unprecedented success in the last 12 years (compared to all other eras of Cyclone football) that we'd have established "tradition"/"helmet recognition" with our current helmets by now. :rolleyes5cz:

Your arguement kind of backs up what jdogg is saying. We have had it for 12 years, and with success it will be recognized. We are not Michigan, Nebraska, or FSU. We are however a Big XII school that will be a force to be reckoned with if things go according to plans/hopes/dreams.

Show someone the Boise State helmet, it is similar to ours in design "flaws", and ask them who it is. If they don't know after last years BCS bowl game they aren't going to know ever no matter what the design. I think we have a similar hill to climb.

Change will make as many people happy as it does angry. Change for the sake of change won't increase our noteriety, and is only needed if GC wants a fresh start to a new era of Cyclone Football. That is the only circumstance in which I think changing the logo would be beneficial.

Ours has to be in the top ten -- red decal on red helmet & way to busy to be recognizable on TV. I hope a new helmet decal will be part of the new uniforms in '08. Here's 2 more:

Boise State -- blue decal on blue helmet, though not as illegible as ours (designed by the same graphics company that designed ours)

Pittsburgh -- especially compared to the classic "PITT"

I would have to agree. Our's is really, really bad.

It has to be the Hawkeyes. That tigerhawk looks more like a parrot.

Ohh boy, warm up the stake for this one.....

I think the Iowa logo is cool. It is simple and effective, and very recognizable. It is everything you want in a college logo.

That beings said, I frickin hate the hawks, but I will admit when the enemy has done something right, and the tigerhawk is a good logo.

I wouldn't go as far to call it cool or put it in my top 10, but I agree with your opinion. That's why I'm hoping we go with a tornado silhouette/outline for our new helmets.

WORST?? Easy, Wisconsin. They copied Waukee's flying "W" design. :laugh8kb:

Agreed! Only in the Little 11 would you find a school so full of itself that it thinks it can copyright a font and then threaten high schools with legal action for using it.

Best helmet? Easy, us-- ISU.

Anyone who wants to make crap out of their own school on an internet message board can suck it.

I have to disagree with the Penn State detractors. Their helmet by itself is nothing special. However, I love the look of their uniform/helmets put together. Easily one of the most recognizable teams at a glance.

Iowa State actually has a copyright on their font as well... When I was in school the Strength and Conditioning Program wanted to get shirts with Staff in the same font as the Cyclone logo on the front but Bruce and his boys wouldn't allow it..

Interesting info... Internal Units : Trademark Licensing Office

There are several schools that have the same initials "ISU." How can Iowa State claim ownership to the initials ISU? Iowa State University was the first "ISU" institution to apply and be granted a federal registration for the use of this mark. We exercise common sense and courtesy and do not pursue actions against our fellow "ISU" institutions. However, we actively pursue others from using our mark and/or have agreements in place with outside entities requiring a disclaimer for the use. University Marketing suggests that since there are other institutions that also identify with these initials, units should consider including other marks in applications that are distributed regionally or have national exposure.

ISU word marks include the ISU initials... Word Marks : Trademark Licensing Office

Unlike the Univeristy of Wisconsin which goes after freakin' high schools in other states, because it might confuse people, Iowa State uses COMMON SENSE!!
