is it time for us to leave the Big 12?

1. Before I start I am not in favor of this.
2. Historically we have competed in the B12 in many sports (esp BB).
3. Football, we have long been on the bottom looking up.
4. However, before you blast the OP, I think most of us woudl be suprised at the amount of support this would get on a general poll of al levels of ISU fans (die hard, casual, some tickets, season tickets, etc). I am not endorsing or saying it is rightm but ISU fans are wanting to win, and some would see this as a means to do so.
5. The main problem with this route is that at first we might be on top However, then our budgets would most likley slip to be at levels of hte new conference and so would recruiting pools and prospects. Who is to say we could stay compettive or not at a lower level. Not saying we would not be, but you cannot just assume it.
6. I think most who advocate this woudl be thinking B10, and in this case several could make a valid argument. Not a good argument, but still a valid argument.

Bottom line, these sentiments exist and if the B12 ever dissolves, it will be interesting to see what happens.

the cards are stacked against us. Small recruiting base, a budget dwarfed by the other schools. Im not demeaning any coach or AD weve had, just being a realist.

No you are not being a realist...you are being negative. We lost one game, against a team who was ranked last week. We had quite a few turnovers which led to short fields and putting the defense out there quite often.

There is more to being in the BIG 12 than playing Iowa.

I really think that we can move up above CU and KSU this year.

You should go ahead and take a long walk across the US and then come back with your obvious infinite wisdom.

ISU plays one of its worse games ever with SIX turnovers and loses 35-3 in the second game of the first season of a brand new coach and you want to throw in the towel?

Cy Rocks - I know what you're saying and I appreciate your support of ISU. But this is not a one-game evaluation. Some of us, myself included, after 36+ years of mediocrity form our football program, are starting to get apathetic after dealing with the same issues year in - year out.

At half-time Saturday, we just celebrated the 50-year anniversary of a team that went 7-3; with no Bowl Invite! (Wasn't that the same year Iowa won / tied the National Championship)

For a Cubs fan you sure aren't acting like you are use to losing...or is that the problem the summer has worn you down?

Agree, it certainly is a barometer of ISU's barren tradition that we bring these teams back over and over - Peach Bowl, Sun Bowl, etc. This wasn't the first time the Dirty Thirty was honored, and it is getting to be a little much.

Because of this one game? You apparently are one of the ISU fans that makes this game your Superbowl...which explains why you're taking it so hard.

It isn't time for ISU to leave the Big 12...but it is time for you to leave the fanbase.

You are assuming he is actually a fan. Lots of suspicious posters leading up to this game and it appears that their negative campaign isn't over.

let's be honest. We are never going to compete in this league, nor would we be a player in the Big 10. I think the MAC is made for us.

Go away and never come back - seriously. I am tired of you idiots popping out of the woodwork with your "we don't belong in the Big XII" crap. 1 game in 1 sport in 1 year of competition does not mean we do not belong.

Seriously, go away.

Can you imagine what that team would have accomplished had they had more than just the 30 guys?

I think the "problem" with the ISU football program in general has been poor decisions, i.e., hiring Donnie Duncan and Jim Criner instead of John Cooper.

I prefer to wait to see what happens with Rhoads and Co. in three years -- yes three years.

Let's just put it this way - if ISU ever voluntarily left the Big XII because it felt like it would have a better chance of competing in the MAC or CUSA, I would be done with Cyclone athletics (and I'm hardly the only one - this would literally kill the fan base). I refuse to cheer for a school that chooses to wave the white flag of surrender because it feels like it can no longer compete and would throw away the vast majority of my ISU apparel and decor as a visual sign that I am separating my interests from the ISU athletic department.

The only place I would leave the Big XII for is the Big X. The revenue sharing would be WAY better, we'd be playing in an easier conference, and we would have our own network.

Even then, though, I think it's a tough sell. The Big XII is a great conference in a lot of ways. It also has some disadvantages in terms of revenue sharing and markets that will probably not ever be fixed.

All teams have their ups and downs. Even Oklahoma and Texas. It wasn't so long ago that even Texas and Oklahoma were struggling programs. Our ups may not be as high, and our lows might be lower than the elite programs in the conference, but gone are the days of us getting blown out in every game with no hope of winning.

Even losing to Iowa this year like we did, I say we still have a good chance to beat at least K-State and Colorado.

We will always be at a disadvantage in the conference in a lot of ways. That doesn't mean we will always be irrelevant to the conference, and it doesn't mean we can't be competitive.

My point exactly. He didn't actually deny it either did he? He has had company here for the last week or so. Lots of negative posts from "Cyclone fans" with low post numbers, etc. Sad...
