Weekend Upsets with WrestleStat - Week 16 - 2018-2019

Here are our upsets from last weekend. Marinelli was obviously ranked behind Wick, even though every other rating service had him #2. The win over Wick this time around should push him up to the #2 spot tomorrow when rankings come out.

Hawaii Trip Recommendations

Taking the Family there for Spring Break. Have a couple VRBO homes lined up. Will be primarily on the Big Island and Maui, but last full day will be on Oahu.

If you have a favorite beach, thing to do, or restaurant let me know. Have heard some of the street vendors can be great.

With the way this winter is going am looking very forward to this trip!

WRESTLING WATCH PARTY: Thursday night at Whiskey River (ISU at UNI)

Join us Thursday night at Whiskey River in Ankeny as we're going to get Flo up on the TV's for some Cyclone Wrestling ... I really hope we have a decent turnout and we can start doing more of these. Figure it's a great opportunity to get some old guard wrestling fans mixed in with some newer, casual ones.

Any Google Voice Users?

I am going to run my Google Voice number as my landline in my house using an Obi 200 device attached to our router. We currently use Ooma for a landline that we never use which costs about $5 a month in fees (taxes and 911 charge). The wife and I like to turn our mobile phones off at night so using a Google Voice number in this way will be free and will allow us to give it to family members who could reach us in the middle of the night if needed. Just curious if anyone has any experiences (good or bad) about using a Google voice number and their services?

High interest savings accounts

Looking at transferring my savings to an online only high interest account that also has no fee checking. I already do over 95% of my banking online but my local bank offers basically nothing for interest. What banks should I check out? One that also offers a good rewards card would be nice. Is there any reason to keep my local bank account?

NSCR: Daytona 500 today

NASCAR's flagship event is today. Judging by what I have seen in the Clash and the Duels I am expecting long boring periods of single file racing with everyone on the high line. This aero package doesn't let the lower line make any sort of progress so the only action we'll see is on restarts with everyone eventually falling into line to just drive around lap after lap waiting for someone to screw up.
About 15 years ago NASCAR decided to fix something that didn't need fixing and every year has just compounded the problem.

In qualifying the Hendrick cars were far better than the others but once you get into the draft it's completely different.

4th annual NES Tecmo Bowl & R.B.I. Baseball tournament

Join us Saturday March 30th in Omaha for a day long celebration of classic Nintendo sports games at Bigway Burger. (72nd street/Ralston)

Each tournament starts with a 3 game opening round, and those results are used to seed the bracket. Tourney format ensures everyone plays in numerous games regardless of experience or skill level. Everyone is welcome to partake in a warm up game before the event begins.

Tecmo Bowl starts at noon, and R.B.I. at 6PM. $20 gets you into either tourney, or enter both for $30. Military ID gets $5 off either price. 100% of the fees collected go to payouts for the top 5 players in each tournament. The tournament is capped with the top 24 players from the opening round.
Adding to the gaming experience, players eliminated in the round of 16 may continue on with additional games to place 9th through 16th. Players eliminated in the round of 8 continue on for 5th place winnings.

For reminders and updates as the tournament draws near, mark yourself as "Going" or "Interested" on the facebook event page

The Tecmo Bowl tournament is single elimination. The R.B.I. Baseball tournament becomes best of 3 in the semi-final and championship rounds.

Umbrella Academy (Netflix Original Series)

Not here to talk about the comic book series (please dont be that person). This was a really enjoyable show. Had some interesting character depth and while it started out kindof all over the place really ended on point. Not sure if anyone else had a chance to watch this yet but it was so far my favorite Netflix OS.

Now On To Baylor

Great win by us today really played well everywhere, Tucker and Wigginton looked amazing with there deep threes. Good win!

Baylor played really bad today against Texas Tech losing by 25 points. Really have not been impressed there last 4 games. Really thinking they will play good against us but I think we are better and our team has momentum.

My Prediction:
Iowa State 87
Baylor 77

Twister Sister Summary - good things are going on in Ames

Can anyone ever get used to watching good basketball? That’s all we’ve seen this year from the twister sisters – good basketball. This group plays as a team and we are seeing assists, rebounds, and ball movement like we have not seen in quite some time. I think of all The times are used to grouse about watching players stand and set spots around the three-point arc. In recent years I complained about Carlton being a volume shooter. I complained about the lack of an inside presence. No more. Well mostly.

I’ve said it before and it’s worth saying again, this group puts a capital “T“ in the word team. They play well together. They play off of each other. They are always looking for that extra pass to an open teammate. For once we have depth on the batch with very little drop off. Coach appears to have found a rotation that just works.

The game today was more of what we have been seeing. As usual our star senior Carlton lead the way doing a little bit of everything. She had some amazing drives inside and scored when she was covered like a blanket. She stepped outside to hit from deep. She rebounded. Kristin Scott continues to show that she is a force to be reckoned with. She’s not really a post player even though that’s where we often find her. She is undersized, but still finds her baskets underneath and steps out and has one of the prettiest three point shots of anyone on the team. Currently she leads the nation in two point basket percentage. Wow. Today was not her best shooting day, but she still managed to put in 17 points. It was fun to see Joens show that she is more than just a three-point shooter. She had several nice drives inside that kept the Oklahoma State defense on their toes. Middleton rebounded with a fine game. Was also nice to see Burkhall get some quality minutes and make the best of it.

It’s kind of surprising that the team really pulled away in the second half and it wasn’t by using the three-point shot. As a matter of fact, the three point shooting in the second half was really pretty bad (14%). What we did see was a team that was moving up and down the court, passing the ball, slicing the lane, and scoring. The team dominated on the boards and in my opinion, the best part, met the maxim of our coach by making as many free throws as the other team attempted.

It’s really been difficult to try to write my normal summaries because typically you can highlight one or two players who were outstanding. While we all know that Carlton is a step above most anybody else in the conference, these are simply team wins. There were very few mistakes.

Every time you listen to a post game interview with the opposing coach there is a common thread. “This is one of Iowa State’s best teams.“ We can hope the winning goes on as long as possible. If the ladies continue to play in the manner we are currently saying I have no doubt they will do some damage in the big 12 tournament and in the NCAA tournament. I would not be surprised to see this team reach at least the round of 16 or better. It’s going to be fun watching it unfold.
