Tamin Lipsey was "the best player on the court" in No. 16 ISU's rout of Mississippi State

Twister Sister Summary - One Week, Three Games

I've chatted with a few of you and decided to post up some "way too early" impressions of what we are seeing in this year's women's team. I'll try to follow up with more as the season goes on. I'd love to see responses to the same questions posed in this TWS!

A new ISU vintage jacket release and branding observation

Hey great win by the team. Good season so far. Always appreciate it when adversity reveals character. The yellow pants & Cyclones script got me thinking again. Again, kudos to all involved in AD & licensing for loosening the reigns a bit to allow more vintage stuff on uniforms. Secondary logos show confidence in the strong I-State branding and creates new opps to catch eyeballs.

On bluesky last week I saw a post by Homefield announcing their new retro jacket collection. There are 66 schools participating. Here's ISU:

See the large vintage stamp branding on the front? Eyeballing it, looks like it takes up about 10% of logo visual weight. Simply can't miss it. I looked at all other 65 jackets. The schools that only use a tiny barely visible TM or C mark are:

Bama, ASU, AZ, Ark, UA, Bay, Cal, Cin, Clemson, CU, Duke, UF, FSU, UGA, GT, ILL, UI, Iowa, KU, KSU, UK, Lou, LSU, MD, Miami, MSU, UM, MN, MSU, Miz, NCSU, Neb, UNC, NW, ND, OSU, OU, OSU, Miss, UO, OSU, PSU, Pitt, Pur, Rutgers, SCar, Syr, TCU, Ten, A&M, Tex, TT, Tulane, UCF, UCLA, UConn, USC, Utah, Vandy, VA, VT, UW, WSU, WVU, Wisc

Here are the schools that require a large licensing stamp:

ISU

Since there is absolutely positively nothing serious going on in the world at all, I'm begging ISU to please put the kibosh on vintage stamp requirements. This may be a minor thing, but I can't sleep at night. Thank you

Gets the culture TJ wants.

He has a message for Iowa State fans.

“Cyclone fans are used to a winning culture the last 5 years and I want to only add to that. I’m not from the U.S, I’m from France so I’m still learning the system of the NCAA but one thing I learned fast is that Iowa State an incredible fan base, that was obvious on the visit. Their energy and enthusiasm was amazing to see.”

InCYde Zone: Back in the win column, running back room carries the load, and defense dominates

Jacqueline Cordova, Jake Remsburg, and Jirehl Brock react to Iowa State snapping its 4-game losing streak in a win against TCU. Does this change the season outlook? Aiden Flora’s moment. Defense played its best game of the year and more. Presented by Wyffels Hybrids.

50th Anniversary of Edmund Fitzgerald Sinking

Today marks 50 years since the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. Obviously most know the famous song which thankfully I got to see Gordon sing in person before he passed, but story has fascinated me as much as Titanic does.

Both were state of the art ships and manned by famous captains, but with the Edmund Fitzgerald there were no survivors so what caused it is still debated today.

Below is the song and a documentary about the ship.

Williams & Blum: A Cyclone stunner

Chris Williams & Brent Blum break down Iowa State’s 20-17 victory over TCU on Saturday in Fort Worth. Is what the defense did against a good Horned Frogs offense sustainable? Plus, Iowa State men’s basketball plays a good Mississippi State team on Monday night. Guessing the point spreads and more, all courtesy of Mechdyne.
