I've chatted with a few of you and decided to post up some "way too early" impressions of what we are seeing in this year's women's team. I'll try to follow up with more as the season goes on. I'd love to see responses to the same questions posed in this TWS!

Nice write-up. I don't think we can tell much at this point. The first and third games were so lopsided that it doesn't say much, but the Southern game pointed out some potential weaknesses or things we'll struggle with, especially turnovers and fouls - and scoring droughts, as always.

I enjoyed everything you said about the newcomers, especially the defensive intensity or focus. I'd throw Hare into that - and Jackson has always played that role, but she's not alone in it now. I would also say that Reagan Wilson has looked especially engaged on the defensive end as well, but it's clear to see that Beatty is a talent upgrade at that position. I know it's garbage time, but she has 4 steals in 28 minutes this year, and had 7 steals all season last year (343 minutes).

The last game really showed off the quality post depth as well - Taulelei looks much improved and Williams is very solid. Any minutes they need to spell Audi aren't scary - and I could see Taulelei potentially playing with Audi some.

I'm looking forward to how they play once they are tested!

I like what I have seen, but I want to see us play a good team and win.
Next Thursday at Drake will be the first better test. Des Moines has always been a bad place for ISU teams. Then the holiday tournament against a couple of good squads. Marquette already beat Wisconsin. Indiana is perfect so far against weak competition. Gonzaga is also perfect against poor competition.

Drake did already lose to Creighton in DSM. We can take a peek at them Thursday at Iowa. That game is on the regular BTN TV so I am going to take a looky. If they can't handle or offset the Hawk bigs they won't be handling ours any better.

I agree. On paper we should handle them easily. Yet, there is some bad juju when we play at Drake. Even our best teams have struggled there for some reason. Just going to be one of those “prove it” type of games.
