One time recently, my husband wondered what it would be like to brine chicken in pickle juice before smoking it - and the answer is ******* amazing, so now he does it almost every time. I've done the same thing with artsy-craftsy pieces - tried to fix something or dropped something in paint, and liked the accidental end result better than the original intent.

What are some things you either discovered accidentally or on a whim, and found out was magical?

I've been listening a lot to podcasts lately at work. I'm a big fan of the one with Scott Auckerman and Adam Scott that has covered U2, REM, and now is going to start with RHCP - REM is the only of those bands that I deeply love, but they're hilarious enough to listen to talk about the weather. Also been listening to a lot of the Scrubs podcast. Backlisted is a great podcast about classic literature. I've also listened a lot in the past to Disgraceland, Homecoming, Serial, Song Exploder, Fictional, and several others. So, I mostly am interested in stuff about music, literature, crime, and I guess some general entertainment. I will tune in to Chris' podcast, but am not generally interested in most other sports podcasts because I miss the visual element there.

If you could start a successful podcast on anything under the sun, what would it be? Would it be about your job, or a hobby/interest? Life advice, or something about which you know a ton?

I remember one time doing a speech for class on classic poems that are similar to modern rock or rap songs ("Mother to Son" by Langston Hughes and "Dear Mama" by Tupac, or "The Man Who Sold the World" by Bowie and "The Psychoed" by Hugh Mearns). I think it could be semi-interesting to see how those intersect, although I think the cross-section of people interested might be small.

What are yours?

So with all the economic uncertainty right now my wife and I were talking the other night about this. If we had to pick up and move where would we go? Both of us have traveled a lot but never lived anywhere but the Midwest and I wouldn't mind doing something different. Personally I'd pick either Texas, the area around Austin specifically or somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. I like Austin for the food scene and I'd spend a lot of time watching races at COTA. I like the Pacific Northwest because you're a couple hours drive from mountains and the ocean.

So where would you go and why? Just for the sake of simplicity I'm keeping the poll to just the US but some days moving to Europe sounds appealing.

On a side note my wife and I both work for the same company and this might actually be something we have to consider based on the doom and gloom coming out of leadership.

With YTTV recent price hike, we are looking at alternate services to try out. Sling has a 14 free trial right now and going to try it out. We have CBS all access so we have that local streaming channel and we have an antenna too if needed. DVR isn't quite a good it seems. They have on-demand stuff too which most of the stuff we watch on YTTV is Ondemand/DVR. DVR doesn't look as good with sling but would be do able.

$45 ($50 for DVR upgrade to 50hr) vs $65 and has most of the channels we normally watch.

Anyone still use sling? Thoughts?

Well we'll start it out of the cave. ABATE is holding their rally on their own land. If you're a biker are you planning on attending have you been to it in the past? I'm not a biker but I personally think I would take a pass on this if it were me. For anyone who goes stay safe and have a fun time.

Sounds like the Ivy League is going to move to a conference only spring season instead of playing this fall. I would bet if they pull the trigger the rest of college football will as well.

Our company just bought new Macbooks, and each of us get a free 12 month subscription. Just curious if there's anything to watch? Also, is it all original content?

Curious how much people trust the fuel range their vehicle tells them. Personally, knowing my brother had run out of fuel a few times in his old car when the range said 15 miles, and my dad's old truck would go from a range of 50 miles to 0 in about 10 miles, I didnt trust it much, so I put a gallon of gas in my trunk and tested it. After I drove about 15 miles with the range saying 0 I pulled into a gas station and filled up. Pump stopped and was still about half of a gallon short of the tank capacity. While it's extremely rare for me to drive until it says zero miles, it's comforting to know that I don't need to worry too much about running out of fuel if the range gets low.

So I lost my job on Friday. Even with Covid-19 hitting the energy business pretty hard I still didn't see it coming. I'm the pretty much the main bread winner in the family as my wife works part time for little pay. Her job has always been the family fun money at best. Now we've just lost 90% of our income.

To say I've been walking around in a daze since losing it on Friday is an understatement. I've lost 4 pounds since Friday...probably the worst part is I live in SE Iowa where the job market is nothing like it is in DSM or Cedar Rapids. I've got two kids, one is going to be a Sophomore and the other a 7th grader. I can't move them to DSM this late in the game can I?

For those that have gone through this what the hell did you do? I actually get to work until July 10 but after that...what? Do I just sit at home and cruise the internet for jobs that don't exist? Try and find a job that will pay me cash under the table so I don't lose unemployment?

I did get a severance and we've got a nice amount of cash in savings, certainly enough to get us by for a while but what then? Can't help but feel so many of my dreams, from paying for my kids college to a kick ass retirement slipping through my fingers.

Anyone that can talk me off the ledge would be appreciated...


PS: I'm a Safety professional is anyone knows of anything.
