adjusted tourney expectations with KG injury
Going into this season most fans thought anything less than an an elite 8 would have been a disappointment. Now that we know ISU will be down KG, what do you expect this tourney?

*elite

Keshon Gilbert

I saw the interview where Keshon said his injury has been bothering him since the first conference game. TJ said it affects his ability to accelerate and pushoff...... this explains A LOT.
So I just want to say THANK YOU Keshon. My heart breaks for you not being able to finish your senior year. Loved you as a cyclone, will be following your future career!

2024 U.S. Census county population estimates

I always find this kind of stuff interesting every spring when they release yearly population estimates. Figured that based on the popularity of the geography thread earlier this year, there might be interest in this as well. City and metro estimates usually follow in May.

Iowa now has eight counties with more than 100,000 residents (and one that's very close).

Polk 515,185
Linn 231,762
Scott 175,601
Johnson 160,080
Black Hawk 132,348
Dallas 115,343
Woodbury 107,257
Story 102,498
(Dubuque 99,242)

The link for all counties in all states (state by state) is here:

By comparison, California has ten counties with over 1,000,000 residents each.

Big12 Tournament Mid-season?

With all the injuries that have hit the top teams this year got me questioning, should the Big12 move the conference tournament to mid-season? Back to back to back high intensity games that come from a conference tournament are going to naturally create more injuries as players get tired. If the NCAA is the goal, why put them through that the week before the tournament?

Still award the tournament winner an auto bid, but do it at the end of January or even get crazy and open the season with it.

SOLD: Jack Trice Pendleton blanket to support Jeremy

UPDATE # 2:

BLANKET HAS BEEN SOLD. Thank you to everyone in this thread who chimed in and shared thoughts.

Haven't been on here for quite a bit. Logged on, saw the rough news and gofundme for @Jer - though of a way to help. I hope this is ok to post.

For those of you who don't know, a bit over 10 years ago I created some ISU blankets with Pendleton Woolen Mills inspired by Jack Trice. A design note with the blanket - I might've been the first to create a licensed item using the Trice jersey five stripe motif that ISU subsequentially adopted and turned into a logo.

We just discovered one of our elderly relatives who got one of our blankets never opened the bag. The plastic crumbled when we opened it, but the blanket itself had never been unfolded. Let's call it like-new condition.

Not sure how to go about this, but perhaps in return for a verified donation to Jeremy's family via gofundme, I'll ship the blanket to you for free. I figured the "winner" could coordinate with me and Jer's family to verify the donation and email me their details so I can send the blanket.

Should we do an open auction here with an end date - perhaps Thursday before ISU's first game?

Or should I have a really high price, let's say $3.7 million and first come first serve here?

Any other ideas?

Twister Sister Summary - Tomorrow is the Big Day. Where will ISU Land?

It's been a quiet week in Big 12 women's basketball, but lots of overall action as auto-qualifiers are determined. Here's a look at the Big 12 before Selection Sunday. Not many surprises.

NIL evaluation/expectation

I’ve been thinking about how the NIL regulations will develop as things play out over time. As we are most familiar with the Big 12 and specifically the old Big 8 members, the $2M for Coleman Hawkins and $1.7M for Hunter Dickinson are examples of NIL money bringing in players with high expectations and the results less than expected. I wonder if the stress of these dollars made public haven’t impacted the performance of the players along with team dynamics. Along with pressure from fans expecting unrealistic results. Both Hawkins and Dickinson have stated that it’s been tough. Otz focuses on finding players that fit his high demands and has to include NIL money along with it. I’m not so sure that the concern that ISU can’t compete without having a boatload of NIL money is really that big of a deal.

Something to tickle your sense of cosmic dread, on this fine Friday.

The phenomena explained: "Faces appear grotesquely transformed while the viewer focuses on the cross midway between them"

Your brain is a fan of Lovecraft-ian horror, and there's nothing you can do about it, but stare into the abyss.
