Depth

I was impressed with our defensive line depth on Saturday. We were regularly rotating in fresh legs, even more so than I remember in the past.

I noticed they really moved McDonald around on the line. I was so used to them playing him on the left side, but they put him in the right a lot and even standing up in the middle. In the left they were double teaming him, but he was still able to k o’clock a pass down.

A lot of experts here on throwing motion of QB's, including Brock and Hunter

A lot of comments over the past several years here are stuck in a time warp on QB mechanics. Now they are talking about Hunter's throwing motion. A lot of misinformation out there.

Please read the attached and there are many other articles available via search. These new styles have all been driven in the past 20 years as the game has evolved. Aaron Rodgers has been a key contributor.

Sometimes throwing side arm, back footed, hopping and throwing across your body are the correct throws. Ball speed, quicker releases, smaller spaced targets can all be improved with these types of throwing motions.

Do you think our coaches are not aware?

Tidbits from Pollard on Tonight's Radio Show

Here's a few news items from AD Pollard on tonight's coaches radio show:

  1. The Hilton update and remodel project is still planned, but since it will require the issuing of bonds to raise the needed funds, don't expect any movement on the project until after the new Big 12 TV deal is finalized.
  2. Plans for the development of "Cytown" (commercial development between Trice and Hilton) will be shared with high level donors this Friday. A teleconference will be held next Monday to share the updated plans with the general public.
  3. In Pollard's opinion, both the Big 12 and Pac 12 will sign new "short term" TV contracts and no conference realignment will take place in the immediate future. What could change this is if the Big 10 expands again, but rumors say the majority of AD's and university presidents are against further expansion at this time.
  4. 16,000 fans entered Jack Trice Stadium for the SEMO game via the new bridge gates on the east side of the stadium. Fans seemed pleased with the addition.

Volleyball sleeves and Iowa State football uniforms

I posted this on twitter but thought it was worth sharing here:

If those don't show up for you, gist is that ISU volleyball uniforms have amazing arm sleeves that recall retro football uniforms, such as those worn across four decades by George Amundson, Bruce Reimers, Troy Davis, and Sage Rosenfels. It would be an easy way to do throwbacks with a modern fit. (I have pictures of all in the second tweet.)

We Will Collective-The Drive

Hey all,

We're doing a fun campaign in honor of THE DRIVE, trying to get 99 gifts of $99 or more in the next 21 hours. Would be a cool way to show support for the fellas ending the streak. I've heard some on here say they've never been directly asked to support Iowa State before, so this is me directly asking you to support. :) And if you can't do $99, any amount makes an impact, truly. Appreciate you all! Go Cyclones!

Blocked Punts

Watching the replay of the game. After our 3 and out on the first drive of the game, the line of scrimmage was the 24.5 yard line. Perkins was set up at the 10 yard line. Snap was perfect. Perkins caught it at the 11. He took 3 steps forward and kicked it at the 15 yard line. VanNess met our blocker at the 17, pushed him back to the 16 and blocked the kick rather easily with his left arm extended.

Iowa faced a 4th down on their 2nd drive at their own 34 yard line. Taylor was set up at the 19 and caught the snap at the 19. He took 2 steps forward and kicked it at the 22. ISU got no pressure at all on the punt.

Seems pretty simple. Perkins needs to catch the ball 15 yards from the LOS instead of 13.5 yards. He also needs to take 2 steps instead of 3 steps. Feel free to offer me an assistant coaching position.
