Twister Sister Summary - changeup leads to much needed win

Many have been clamoring for more minute for Jade Thurmon. Today they got their wish as Jade was put into the starting lineup and what a difference she made. The first half was all Joens and Scott as they were practically the only two scoring. Fortunately Nez and Jade added just enough to keep OSU from pulling ahead too far. But the lack of scoring was evident as the sisters only tallied 25 in the first half.

For a change the third quarter was not our enemy. The ladies came out after halftime to dominate the third. Rather than a two headed beast there was more balanced scoring and the ladies turned on the gas over the last few minutes to edge ahead. Of course we know the ladies won, but was impressed me (and distressed me) were the last few minutes.

During the last 1:30 or so the bad part was ISU wouldn’t score. But what was fun was watching the defense. In particular watching Thurmon seeming to be everywhere using her speed to harass whoever had the ball. The team shut the door on OSU and walked away with the one point win.

A few notes...
Wise is making a difference. She may not be scoring a lot, but her minutes provide relief and take the heat off the other guards.

Thurmon was a difference maker. Not a high percentage shooter (but I think that may change with continued playing time) she still put in 10 points and her speed made the team look different.

Free throws...the team continues to make opponents pay when our ladies are allowed to get to the line.

Assists. This was the most disturbing part of the game. Only 6 assists on 23 baskets along with NINETEEN turnovers won’t cut it. And no...Thurmon didn’t have most of them. She only had 3 which is not too shabby.

This win came at a big time for the team. It stemmed the bleeding and had to restore some faith. Seeing Thurmon step up helped and having Wise continue to contribute in a big way sure helps. Up next are two very winnable games against the wheat teams. Both are at home and the ladies need a rowdy home crowd to help with the home cooking. Two wins would also get them on the positive side of the conference record.

Sisters vs Kansas, 1/25/20

Kansas vs. Iowa State
Date/Time: Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. (CT)
Where: James H. Hilton Coliseum (Ames, Iowa)
Listen: Jayhawk Radio Network with Jimmy Chavez
Watch: Cyclones TV (Subscription needed) with Dave Sprau and Molly Parrott calling the game.

I've never started one of these before, so here goes:

In looking at their roster, they could make things difficult for us, as 4 of their top six scorers are guards, and we often struggle to limit penetration. I am guessing we could see more of the zone/hybrid defense, maybe even a box and 1 while trying to limit Kersgieter's touches (shoots over 40% from 3). They forced Texas into 21 turnovers. Our press break may be crucial.

Go State !!!

Player development

Will Dave Andrews help with filling out the skinny arms and shoulders of the ISU BB team? As I watched specifically Baylor beat us in the second half, we do not match up physically with them. Seems we can do better to develop, Conditt, Bolton, Lewis, Halliburton and all players reach their potential. Certainly this will also help players compete a full 40 minutes. May not help with ball handling, but at least make players bigger and stronger.

Thanks so much to @StevieISU23 for this first topic!

Here's the description (I'll add a private poll):

In relation to budgeting (New Years resolutions: lose weight and cut expenses). How much non-mortgage debt do you have? And what is your debt from? (CCs, school, cars) Are you aggressively working at it (Dave Ramsey'ing it)?

A few things.... Will Pollard ever have 3 home games to start the season?? Why do we keep playing away games vs MAC teams??

Why do we keep playing the same teams... for example how many times have we lined up against UNI, UNLV and Ohio recently?

If you are going to play home/away at MWC teams... go for better ones such as Air Force, San Diego State, Colorado State, New Mexico or Wyoming.

Finally... will Iowa renew thier contract after 2025?

Fighting Burrito in Ames Closing

Saw this on their Facebook page this morning: https://www.facebook.com/FightingBurrito/

Sad day for me and many of my college buddies. I spent way too many drunken nights there after bar close chowing down on a burrito, quesadilla or the occasional monster sized rice krispie treat. Was a staple on Welch during my ISU days, will be interesting to see what that location becomes. It's prime real estate in Campus Town.
