RECRUITING: Iowa State adds Florida offensive lineman to 2023 class

Iowa State has officially added the first offensive lineman to its 2023 recruiting class.

Three-star Florida interior offensive lineman Brendan Black announced his pledge to Matt Campbell’s program on Friday via his Twitter account. The 6-foot-3.5, 300-pound Yulee, Fla. native officially visited Ames last weekend.

Black is considered the No. 66 interior offensive lineman in the country by the 247Composite. He rates as the No. 901 player overall in the class and No. 127 player in the state of Florida.

The Bolles School product also held offers from Duke, Kansas, Louisville, Miami and a host of other major FBS programs.

This is the 11th commitment for the Cyclones’ class during this recruiting cycle, and the fourth in the last two weeks, joining a trio of in-state players in athlete Jamison Patton, athlete Kooper Ebel and wide receiver Kai Black.

The commitment should move Iowa State’s class somewhere into the range of No. 17 nationally in the 247Sports team rankings. The class currently ranks as the fifth-best in the Big 12, but should move up to No. 4 once the rankings are updated with the addition of Black.
