IRVING, Texas – Kysen Terukina has been named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. It marks Terukina’s first career weekly honor from the conference.

Terukina made a statement to open Iowa State’s 42-0 shutout of No. 18 Wisconsin. The Cyclone 125-pounder won by major decision, 14-3, against No. 5 Eric Barnett.

The pair met last season with Terukina prevailing over Barnett, 9-7, in sudden victory. The Ewa Beach, Hawaii native announced his return from last year’s season-ending shoulder injury and separated himself in the rematch with a four-takedown performance Sunday.

Terukina improved to 4-2 against top-10 foes and 3-1 against top-5 opponents in the last three seasons with the win.

Iowa State is back in action Sunday when it hosts in-state rival Iowa in the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series. The dual is set for a 2 p.m. start time on ESPN.
