The following is a press release from Iowa State Athletics Communications:

AMES, Iowa – If you were in the women’s college basketball world and did not know about Iowa State’s Stephanie Soares, you do now. After an outstanding pair of games at the Phil Knight Invitational, the Cyclone post has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

This is Soares’ first Big 12 honor of her brief Iowa State career and marks the second-straight week the Cyclones have earned the nod for the league’s best player after Ashley Joens earned honors last Monday.

Against Michigan State on Thanksgiving Day, Soares exploded for 23 points (on 10-of-14 shooting), 11 rebounds and six blocked shots. Her effort marked the fourth time in program history that a player has finished with at least 20 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks in a game.ADVERTISING
