WBB: Iowa State ranked in top 5 for first time since 2001

For the first time since the 2001-02 season, Iowa State women’s basketball is ranked as a top five team in the Associated Press top 25.

The Cyclones are coming off of a week that saw them defeat in-state rival UNI in a thriller on the road as well as Columbia at Hilton Coliseum on Sunday.

“It means a lot,” senior Ashley Joens said. “Just to be able to say that we got ranked that high. It shows not only what we think of our team, but also what other people think about our team as well. It’s exciting.”

The poll includes five Iowa State opponents including a guaranteed top 25 matchup in Portland on Sunday with North Carolina ranked No. 8 and Oregon coming in at No. 18.
