RECRUITING: Kooper Ebel earns Player of the Week honors after standout game

He had nearly 283 yards rushing, found the end zone four times, kicked an extra point because the score was so lopsided and added two interceptions on defense.

Kooper Ebel might have played the game of his life as far as stats go for Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn in a 55-20 win over Hinton on Friday, earning SportsZone Player of the Week honors from SiouxLandProud.com.

The 2023 Iowa State commit has been an all-around power for HMS, playing defense, quarterback, kicker, and punter if his dynamic talents can find their way to a fist down.

The Hawks are 5-2 this year and are setting up to be a force during the Class A playoffs starting later this month.

Ebel is a big reason why.

“I think the biggest thing I recognize is his leadership,” HMS coach Jay Eilers told Siouxlandproud.com. “He is willing to be a leader and lead guys in tough situations in tough times and then just the character of being a competitor is second to none. He loves competition. He loves being pushed and that competitor in him drives him to be great on the field and off the field.”

HMS will face Akron-Westfield (1-6) this Friday during senior night in its final home game of the season.
