Lazard signs second-round tender with Packers

Allen Lazard will officially be a Green Bay Packer for at least one more season.

The former Cyclone and restricted free agent signed his second-round tender worth $3.986 million on Monday. He’d previously skipped the team’s organized team activities with the goal of securing a long-term deal with the franchise.

Lazard will be one of the favorites to end up as the Packers’ go-to wide receiver with quarterback Aaron Rodgers after the departures of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The Urbandale native finished last season with 40 catches on 60 targets for 513 yards and eight touchdowns. He caught five touchdown passes in the team’s last five regular-season games of 2021.

“He’s been our dirty-work guy for most of his career here,” Rodgers said about Lazard last week. “Now he’s getting an opportunity to be a No. 1 receiver. I’m not worried about him at all stepping into that role. I’ve talked to him a lot. I know how he takes care of his body, and I know he’ll be ready when he’s here.”
