Uwazurike drafted No. 116 overall by Denver

One of the linchpins of Iowa State’s defensive resurgence in recent seasons heard his name called at the NFL Draft on Saturday in Las Vegas.

Cyclone defensive lineman Enyi Uwazurike was taken with the 11th pick of the fourth round, and No. 116 pick overall, by the Denver Broncos.

Uwazurike appeared in 60 games across five seasons in an Iowa State uniform, tallying 144 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss and 15 sacks. He was a first-team All-Big 12 selection by the league’s coaches this past season after earning honorable mention All-Big 12 honors in 2019 and 2020.

The Detroit native finished third in program history in career tackles for loss and sixth in career sacks. He is one of only three players to play in five bowl games in an Iowa State uniform.

The NFL Draft will continue throughout the day with more Cyclones expected to hear their names called.
