Kim Mulkey left Baylor this offseason after a run of 11-straight Big 12 regular-season titles and three national championships to take the job at LSU.

The run has put Baylor teams atop the Big 12 Conference for some time, and Bill Fennelly has seen it front and center while at the helm in Ames.

The pair will face off one more time during the upcoming season, Fennelly announced during the Iowa State Virtual Tailgate Tour on Wednesday.

The Cyclones will be traveling to Baton Rouge, La., during the non-conference season to take on the Tigers as part of the Big 12 / SEC Challenge.

“Yeah, the league is changing,” Fennelly said. “I’m really happy that Coach Mulkey got to go home and go to LSU. Unfortunately, we have to play them in the SEC Challenge (this winter). I can’t get away from her.”

Fennelly, who was joking about the matter, has faced off against Mulkey every year dating back to 2000.

In the past six meetings, Fennelly’s squad has prevailed three times.

The only other confirmed non-conference game at this point is Iowa State’s annual date with the Iowa Hawkeyes, which will be played in Ames this season.

If Iowa State again faces Drake and UNI in 2021, Iowa State will host the Panthers then visit the Bulldogs at the Knapp Center.

Bill Fennelly’s contract was also extended on Wednesday.

He mentioned the news during his Tailgate Tour Segment as well.

“Obviously, the news that came out today – Deb and I love Iowa State,” Fennelly said. “We love everything about it. We’re honored to be a part of the Iowa State family. This is home for us. I can’t thank Dr. Wintersteen and Jamie (Pollard) for allowing us to hang around a little bit longer.”
