Since the CDC stated it was okay for vaccinated people to forgo wearing masks, restrictions related to COVID-19 have been dropping in places worldwide.
The restrictions that prevented fans from attending games at Jack Trice Stadium in 2020 are expected to go along with them.
Jack Trice Stadium will be back at 100 percent capacity this fall, according to Iowa State Activities Director Jamie Pollard, who made this statement during the school’s virtual Tailgate Tour on Wednesday.
“We are going to have a full stadium,” Pollard said. “I just saw a notice that came across today from (Iowa State President) Dr. (Wendy) Wintersteen that we have removed the mask restrictions from campus, and we’re back to 100 percent capacity for any events we’re doing on campus.”
While students exit campus or linger around for the summer, the mask mandates are no more, and the groups of people will form as they always have.
The stadium’s interior will have a little bit of a different look from the last time 61,500 fans filed in after the completion of the Sports Performance Center on the north side of Jack Trice.
Pollard was especially bullish on the new hillside section of the stadium.
“Based on ticket sales, I think we’re going to have more than 100 percent capacity,” Pollard said. “We’re going to find out how many people we can fit on those new grass hills.”
Iowa State will open its season – with 61,500 or more fans in the stands – against Northern Iowa on September 4.
