Iowa State wrestling has officially punched three tickets to the NCAA Championships with two wrestlers fighting for a title on day two of the Big 12 Championships.
Ian Parker, David Carr and Gannon Gremmel earned their way to the final round with dominant wins on Saturday.
Carr started the day off with a bye but that didn’t stop him from making an impression in the quarterfinals. The 157-pounder faced off against Parker Simmington (Air Force) and it only took 46 seconds for him to secure the win.
The first round pin marked the sixth-fastest fall in Big 12 Championship history and the second-fastest ever by a Cyclone.
After defeating No. 4 Cade DeVos (South Dakota State), Carr punched his ticket to the NCAA Championships making him a two-time NCAA qualifier.
Parker, the most consistent wrestler on the team, started the day by dominantly defeating Chase Zollman (Wyoming) 13-1.
He secured his spot in the NCAA Championships and the finals when defeating No. 4 Cade DeVos (South Dakota State) 4-2. Parker is officially a three-time NCAA qualifier.
Another highlight for the Cyclones was 184-pounder Marcus Coleman, who tallied three pins on the day.
Heavyweight Gannon Gremmel locked himself into the NCAA Championships after a 3-1 win over No. 4 Josh Heindselman (Oklahoma) in sudden victory. He is officially a three-time NCAA qualifier.
On the backside of the bracket, No. 7 Kysen Terukina, No. 7 Zach Redding, No. 5 Jarrett Degen, No. 5 Sam Colbray and No. 6 Marcus Coleman will all be wrestling for third place.
Day two: The Big 12 Championship continue at 10 a.m. with the consolation semifinals and medal matches on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The finals are set for 5 p.m. tomorrow evening on ESPN2.
