Breece Hall is officially two-thirds of the way to being a consensus All-American.

Hall was named a first-team All-American on Tuesday by The Sporting News, which is one of the five selectors considered for NCAA recognized consensus status. He was joined on the teams by linebacker Mike Rose, who earned a second-team nod.

Hall, who was named a first-team All-American by the Associated Press on Monday, led FBS football with 1,436 yards rushing as a sophomore while scoring 19 touchdowns on the ground and 21 total touchdowns, which tied the single-season school record previously set by Troy Davis, who is the only other Cyclone to earn The Sporting News All-American honors, which he did in 1995 and 1996.

Rose, the consensus Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, has totaled 90 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and four interceptions during his junior season. His marks for tackles and interceptions lead the Big 12.

On the topic of consensus All-Americans, Hall is currently on pace to be the first Cyclone, and only the fourth in program history, to earn one of the sport’s highest honors. With two teams already under his belt, he will need to appear on one of the Football Writers of Association of America, American Football Coaches Association or Walter Camp Family Foundation teams to be a consensus All-American and with appearances on all three will be the program’s first unanimous All-American.

The FWAA will announce its All-American team on Wednesday during the broadcast of the Cotton Bowl game between Oklahoma and Florida.
