AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior guard Monté Morris has accepted an invitation to try out for USA Basketball’s Pan American Games team. The tryouts will take place July 7-9 in Colorado Springs with professional players not currently under NBA contract and returning college players vying for roster spots.

“It is a great honor to be given the opportunity to represent our country by trying out for this team,” Morris said. “I have been pushing myself to the limit every day and I am going to try and seize the moment.”

The 2015 Pan Am Games will take place July 21-25 in Toronto, Canada. The United States will be led by Gonzaga head coach Mark Few with Colorado’s Tad Boyle and former NBA coach Mike Brown assisting.

Notable past players that played in the Pan Am Games include Michael Jordan, Oscar Robertson, David Robinson and Jerry West. The United States has not won gold at the event since Jordan’s team in 1983.

The only Cyclone to play in the Pan American Games was Gary Thompson in 1959. Thompson and the United States won the Gold medal, defeating Puerto Rico.
