A busy basketball recruiting weekend will begin today for Iowa State.
— Virginia Tech transfer Dorian Finney-Smith will arrive in Ames later this afternoon for an official visit with the Cyclones. Finney-Smith averaged 6.3 points and seven rebounds per game last year for the Hokies as a freshman.
There is a lot of mixed “information” floating around the Internet regarding Finney-Smith right now.
CBS college basketball columnist Jon Rothstein recently called Iowa State a “major player” to land Finney-Smith’s services.
Meanwhile, a Louisville media man named Mike Rutherford recently tweeted: “Have been told “unless something wild happens,” VT transfer Dorian Finney-Smith (another weekend visitor) will pick Florida or Louisville.”
As is the case with just about every college basketball recruiting story, anything can happen here folks. Finney-Smith is obviously interested in Iowa State or he wouldn’t be making the trip.
Expect Fred Hoiberg to pitch Royce White’s one-and-done (after a redshirt year of course) success to Finney-Smith. After all, Rivals.com did rank Finney-Smith as the nation’s 31st best recruit in the class of 2011.
— I’m hearing that Iowa State might receive an unofficial visit from a 2013 prospect today. I’ll keep you posted if I can get some confirmation on this potential story.
— Monte Morris, a 2013 Flint, (Mich.) point guard who claims offers from other high-major programs such as: Iowa State, Arizona State, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, USC and Providence is also scheduled to be in town for an unofficial visit this weekend.
— In one final note, Wisconsin transfer Jarrod Uthoff committed to the University of Iowa last night.
