CF Q&A: Chris Colvin

Here is the first of many interviews that I conducted last Thursday at Iowa State men’s basketball media day.

This piece is with freshman point guard Chris Colvin. He’s so mature for a freshman. He truly wants to be a pass-first kind of player, which I know head coach Greg McDermott absolutely loves.

Enjoy the interview.

CF: It looks like you’re going to have a lot of competition for playing time at point guard. What are your thoughts on that?

CC: Yeah, there is. I’m am just going to get in where I fit in. I just want to help the team accomplish their goals. That will then accomplish my personal goals. I’ll just go from there.

CF: Do you think that this team has the talent to be special and go to the NCAA tournament? CC: I think that the talent we brought in this year is going to get us over the hump.

CF: What is unique about you compared to the other point guards on the team? CC: A lot of people don’t know that I am a pass first guy. I don’t really care too much about scoring. I want to get everybody the ball. That’s what a real point guard does. A lot of point guards are missing the attribute of being a pass first guy.

CF: What has the experience been like so far for you compared to what you thought it would be?

CC: It has been good so far just being around my teammates, being around the coaching staff and getting to know everybody. It has been a great experience so far.

CF: What do you think of the new practice facility?

CC: It’s lovely. It is lovely. The 24-hour access, you can’t beat it.

CF: What have your initial thoughts been of Marquis (Gilstrap)?

CC: There are a lot of people excited about him. I am excited about him too. A lot of people think that he is going to do something big. Hopefully we’ll see this year, what he can do.
