That article describes ISU's win over Nebraska in 2002 at "tripping up giants"? That game was #20 Nebraska at #19 Iowa State (and we beat 'em by 22 points). Maybe she will look past the name of the school the next time she writes an article like this. But seeing as she covers OU, I doubt it.

She also describes Ohio State's loss to 6-6 Virginia Tech in 2014 as a loss to a "strong program." The same with 5-7 Texas and 5-7 Nebraska in 2015. She's just looking at the name on the front of the jersey again with zero insight into the team. Really a bad, bad article.

I can't believe they'd lament a loss to I-State without blaming the first appearance of the crimson on crimson uniforms.

Meh shes an OU homer. We are not the same ISU that we were in the 90's. Just keep winning and this stigma will fix itself. Besides we are just as harsh with our team when we lose. The writer bringing up the defensive unsportsman like penalty rings pretty true to our game last week.

Didn't read article, but can of agree with the headline. They were cruising to the CFP.

Losing at home to a team with zero brand name, as 30 point favorites, with your senior Heisman-hopeful QB? That's gonna sting.

The can console themselves a bit in that we probably gave Okie Lite THEIR worst loss ever too...

Oh, that was really a hurtful thing to say about ISU. I do understand exactly where she is coming from. None of us fans gave ISU more than a punchers chance before Park was not playing. On the other hand, OU needs to take a good look at how they play, because this loss is almost all on them. In the past they would cheap shot, hold, PI, etc. all over the field. They would get called for about 25% of them, but they would usually overcome them because they were just more talented. They would basically bully other teams into submission. When it didn't work on ISU in the first half, they just did it more. You could see the frustration in their play. This is Iowa State, they can't do this to us, we are the Sooners.

Well bloated Chip Kelly also said this was more damaging to CFP hopes than OSUs loss to VT saying that was a good Virginia Tech team. No it wasn't. 6-7 in an ACC that had FSU, Clemson but little else. At the time it was mental gymnastics to get OSU in the CFP, and they are already going to work to try to make it happen again.
That and life is easier when you just accept that a good portion of college football talking heads know less than random message board posters.

If I were an OU fan (shudder) I would be most concerned of what I saw on the field more than on the scoreboard. We were just beating them up in the 4th Qtr. Players dragging themselves off the field, heads hung after every play. It is one thing to no execute and overlook an opponent, it is another thing to get physically beat up. CMC has done a great job of closing the physical gap and putting Big XII bodies on the field. ISU was tougher by a good measure.

Agreed. If OU was mentally tough, they could have gone out there and won the game still but you could tell by their sideline and on field demeanor that they were rattled and frustrated. I still think they will make the playoffs but they need to be more mentally tough then that if they want to do anything in the post season. I would be furious with the OU team if I was a fan. They had the ball with a timeout and a few minuts to play and looked lost.

It's one thing to think it, it's another thing to be a sports columnist and put it in print. Did like the small tip of the hat she gave to our BB team with the 21 pt comment. She's a KU grad to so DJ's dagger had to hurt her to. Probably 2 of her favorite teams both have home streaks snapped by ISU. Her whiny column was a fun read though.

That describes the majority of sports journalism.

This is just how college football is now. The vast majority of commentators, talking heads, and even CFP committee members come in with ideas in their heads about teams and conferences. Iowa State could go 7-5 this year and OU's loss would still be viewed as "worse" than Ohio State's to Virginia Tech (or the losses to 5-7 Texas or 5-7 Nebraska in 2015 that were mentioned) simply because of the name of the school. There is no way around it this year. You only change it with sustained years of success, because these people are otherwise lazy and don't look into this team this year.

I think she fell into the trap, thinking that Jacob Park was the be-all, end-all difference maker on this team (she's not the only one down in that hole). He is a difference maker, but we have players all over the field, and I think every single one of them elevated their games and executed (including a legendary game from Kempt).
