I have a small outdoor antenna and have always been able to pick up Channel 5. A few weeks ago it quit coming in and now has not worked since. I tried re-programming the channels and this did not work. Now it won't even detect channel 5. The antenna location has not moved nor have I changed any connections. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Try a stronger antenna, maybe? I don't know. I have an antenna for the local affiliates but I've never been able to pick up channel 5 either.

I live in Waukee and am using a post that my dish was mounted to in the ground that way I can just hook my antenna to the cables that ran to my dish. My antenna is on the south side of my house and I need to have a clear sight to the northeast. This means my house blocks it. What I can't really figure out is that I picked it up fine a few weeks ago, but can't get it now. Makes no sense.

Never got it in Ames. I don't understand why their signal is so weak. Fox, NBC, CBS, CW all come in just fine

One plausible explanation would be the change in weather. Temperature and light both effect the transmission for these radio waves. I can pick up Channel 5 during the evenings usually almost 90 miles away but I have a large antenna with an amplifier. It works better at night and during the winter.

leaves coming in on trees is another possibility. I used to live in heavily wooded area, in the winter I was fine, but as soon as the trees leaved out, my signal was toast.

I contacted WOI and received some bad news. Station management has no intention of taking the signal to UHF at this time. They obviously do not care if OTA viewers receive a consistent, quality signal or not.

I got WOI to work again. It is a bit touchy though. I did have times where random channels like PBS and CBS would not work. After a few days it would come back. Makes no sense to me, but thanks all for the input. About WOI switching from UHF, it comes as no surprise to me. It seems like they have always been behind the other stations as far as picture quality and quality of local programming. The only reason I watch them is sports. I remember when I was in college in 2005, a person in my bowling class that did an internship with them told me that they recorded their news broadcasts on Beta Max tapes.

Beta Max in 2005? Haha. That had to be more expensive than using a newer standard technology.

Lordy there are tapes! Not surprised though....I imagine most places didn't do a whole lot of digital transition stuff until they had to and could fully realize the capabilities.

Anyone having luck pulling in the new WOI/Channel 5 in West Des Moines, near Jordan Creek Mall? I have a Mohu Leaf 50 indoor antenna that picks up every other channel easily. Since about August I haven't got a signal at all and I'm tired of bumming my families espn login to stream thru their DirecTv subscription.

I live closer to 50th and I've been able to pull it. I installed an amplified antenna in my atic last summer and that has worked really well.

Are you streaming?

Streaming thru Roku. I'm not sure how to use an attic antenna since the cable outlets are being used for my fiber internet connection to the modem and router on my TV stand

Yeah, that would be a problem. I was able to utilize my DTV coax as well as the original coax in the walls because I had Medicom run a new line from my basement to my living room for my modem.

You may want to consider switching to PS Vue, they have all of the locals now except for NBC.
