Think about doing the Lake Michigan Loop. You can do it in 4 days or stretch it out to spend more time along the route for scenic views, small towns, breweries and even wineries.

I would spend the extra time on the loop before I would go to Madison. Madison is like combining Iowa City/Coralville and Cedar Rapids, but the population is mostly Iowa City type residents.

I would echo the South Haven/Holland Meeeeshigan area. Spent a few weeks there a few years ago and it was excellent.

In SW Michigan, visit St. Joseph and south through Harbor Country on Red Arrow Highway; plenty of beaches, bed and breakfasts and local wineries. Hopefully the governor will ease back on shelter in place on the 28th.

Yeah, now's not a great time to visit Michigan. The state is slowly opening back up, but shelter in place is still mostly in effect.

Yeah and WI right now is depending on the county, and even then, it's depending on how the business or tourist site wants to operate.

So far the things I like doing in WI and MI won't be much different for me, maybe just more planning.

Some places like Pictured Rocks might be even more crowded than usual with people wanting to stay more local.

I took the ferry across from Milwaukee last summer and while it was nice to be able to do that vs. driving through Chicago I'd imagine the trip around Lake Michigan would be more interesting if there's no time issues.

Drove a bit along Hwy 35 several years ago and it had some cool spots.[/QUOTE

What route would you suggest taking from Madison into the UP and down through Michigan?
