Try an Australian Shiraz some time. That was my go to bottle when I was starting to get into wine. It's got enough fruit taste to it to give the perception of sweetness, though there's not much in the way of residual sugar.

Australian Shiraz is great but can be gigantic and hard to drink. Penfolds is a good Australian brand to stick with. It isn't going to win any contest, but has what most easy going wine drinkers are looking for, subtle flavors, big floral and easy finish. If you are trying to impress somebody Penfolds Bin 13 is excellent, but a little bit pricier.

I really enjoy wine but like most don't know much about it except what I like. I like shiraz and pinot noir. One of the things I don't really like about wine is that it comes in a bottle. This is great if you are having a nice dinner and want to share a bottle and get a bit tipsy, not so great if you just want one glass in the evening because I don't think wine ever tastes as great if you drink a bottle that has been opened for awhile. A couple months ago my husband brought back a box of wine and I thought this is going to be disgusting but I was suprised. There are actually a few decent boxed wines out there (Bota box Shiraz and Pinot Evil Pinot Noir are my favorites). They are great for just having around the house and for people who like wine but are broke like us.

My wife has gotten me into drinking wine, I like reds usually. I'll drink damn near anything, but know that I like some better than others.

There are actually some very good local wineries that are good to check out. When I lived in Omaha, I used to make it to Brownville, NE for work sometimes and would always pick up the Northern Red from this place....delicious!

Was out in Napa about a month ago to do some tastings.

My favorite in that region and a vineyard you can't really go wrong with is Grgich Hills. Great Chardonnay and Cabernet. Pricey and hard to find around here but is well worth it.

Like someone said earlier, the OR Pinot Noirs are great. My personal favorite being the Kings Estate Pinot which you can find at World Market.

Santa Margarita is a great Pinot Grigio that is easy to find.

For a budget wine the Clos Du Bois line is pretty tasty.

I'm heading off to France in a few days and I don't like wine. It's too bad because wine is cheaper than pop there. At least it was in Italy.

White to red is a matter of personal taste, some people predominantly still drink whites.

However, most whether it is red or white, (or going from one to the other start sweet and go dryer).

For the most part my wife and I drink whites, with dry reds in colder weather.

We started with Zins, and then moved towards Chards. We still like chards and often have a Pino Grigio, but for the most part now drink Saviougn Blancs. In particular those from New Zealand, Australia, South American and South Africa.

The NAPA ones are ok, but have a higher sugar content, so that is where the sweetness comes in.

The Marlbourgh region Saviougns are more acidic, so they are sweet, but in tart hgh ph way, So they are dry like a chard, but still tar/sweet, you can tast the fruit.

Ok, I sound like a wine snob.. Just an Iowa farm boy.

Grgich is delicious. You can sometimes find it out of wine speacilty stores. Since the way wine is distributed the smaller markets get little to no shot at the smaller wineries, so thus we are stuck with Kendal Jackson and Berringer. Gross

Kings Estate is the best example of a good, cheap oregan pinot noir
