Why did you choose to go to ISU?

Easy decision.......my older brother paved the way, and I wanted to major in ag-business. But always followed the Cyclones growing up, even before deciding to attend school there.

Grew up an Iowa fan from SE Iowa, didn't hear much about the Cyclones. I would cheer for both schools whenever I could but didn't get the opportunity to watch many ISU games.

I actually chose ISU for Pre-Med. Got accepted to both Iowa and ISU but my HS biology teacher was an ISU grad and said I would get a better science education at ISU. Growing up I also competed in nerdy science fairs and future problem solving which both had their state finals at Iowa State, so I got to love the campus as a lot of you did. Decided that eventually I would go to Iowa for medical school but first I wanted the best undergrad education...and chose Iowa State.

Had always been a band nerd as well, but never thought I had the time to participate in the ISU marching band. Finally, Senior year I said screw it and became a member of the Iowa State Marching band. Over the years I had been slowly losing my Iowa ties and becoming more of a die hard Cyclone, but once I joined the marching band that was the end of my toleration for the Hawks.

Hence after graduation, instead of going to medical school at Iowa, I decided on Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine...and I will never regret any of my decisions. Go Cyclones!!

My story is boring, grew up a cyclone fan, wanted to be an engineer, no brainer.
But I will tell the story of one of my good friends. He grew up in Minnesota, and a few years back, Sports Illustrated ran an article about the best Intramural traditions in the country. Iowa State was on the list for it's outstanding Broomball tournement. So my buddy chose ISU for the Broomball intramurals.

Here's my story....

My family was more Hawkeye fans until my oldest brother went to ISU. I was six at the time and have been an Iowa State fan ever since. My major was Journalism/Mass Communication (pretty even guy:girl ratio) and I had wanted to go to Kansas. I did a visit and got accepted. My parents told me I would have to fit the bill there. If I went to ISU, then they would pay.

My question to some of you...what is a student loan???:wink0st:

Oh, and by the way...I sold out to corporate America and now work for a financial company as a Learning and Development Consultant. (that's just a fancy term for "training".)

Never took a loan here either, worked 2 jobs to pay for school. But it was only $795 a semester while I was there.

What's the deal with the talk about the pants? Wasn't that clarified in another thread? They are Hurley pants, right? Those are some pretty sweet snowboarding pants. My only criticism is the sweatshirt tucked into them. :wink0st:

When it comes to fashion while tailgating, all rules go out the window. As long as you are warm and comfortable and can drink beer in the attire, go for it! The only thing I think is ridiculous are the girls wearing the jean skirts, heels, and tank tops. Those are definitely not the girls that will be able to talk to you about the game. In fact, those girls are for other purposes other than talking. *ahem* FYI...I wear jeans, a t-shirt and some sensible shoes--you know, so I can stand and cheer the whole game without my feet hurting.

Whoa, sorry, mini-rant there.

Tell on you...sheesh, the mods on here hate me more than the regular members.. I will have to find a new pic so people can stop talking about this.

Clyde Williams field sealed the deal for me. The Hub and 30-cent cones at the Union were pretty enticing, too. Plus, all my high school friends in eastern Iowa were Hawkeyes, so I HAD to go the road less travelled.

Mom had Masters and PhD from ISU. Brother & Sister-in-law were both there. Mother-in-law had Bachelor's, Masters and PhD from ISU. Father-in-law had Bachelor's. Husband would have left me if I chose Iowa. :0)
Mostly, when I was in HS I came to a couple classes with my brother and even though it was February and central campus is one of the coldest places I've ever been to, I decided it was the place for me. Accounting grad, 2003. Loved the place, and hubby introduced me to the sports. Love that too!

We definitely would have talked less to you at Thanksgiving. :wink0st:

I had it narrowed down to Drake, Simpson, and ISU. I got a scholarship to ISU, and the family history was so strong - born a Cyclone, die a Cyclone.

that would totally explain the ~ $1300 when I got there that fall ...

whats the rate at these days?

Jumpin Jeebus... $3030 a semester for in-state undergrad. No wonder students complain nowadays. I thought they were just sissies.

Gee, thanks!:wink0st: Only ever really considered Iowa when I was about 5 and my parents drove me by the Vet Med building there. I realized later that Vets don't just get to play with animals all day long, so decided against it!
