Why did Degand leave?

I suggest he was hoping Will and Curtis hung around their last year for leadership. If they both left, it would be at the center of the guard spotlight and maybe he was not ready for that role.

Or Wayne did serve as a great father figure and took care of him.

Or he needed more inner city east coast teammates for the commonality factor.

Or he has red shirted and it was easy to pick up his marbles and go at this point.

Or he wanted to lead a fast break, harem carom, wild west basketball style and now we would have to make each possession count.

Or did a few leaving in a group just make it easier to leave.

Or all of the above.

I suggest all of the above. Did I miss any?

I've been out of town over the past few days. Did Degand announce where he is going?

Im going to have to ask the question I always do. HOW DO YOU KNOW? It seemed to me he was happy here when morgan was here, he was the team prankster and MC'd events during VEISHA. why does every one that leaves automatically not have a work ethic? What if they all wanted to work HARDER than mcd was going to let them?

Agreed we don't know about their work ethic... but as for being happy while morgan was here.. being an emcee for a VEISHEA event occurred while Morgan was no longer with ISU. Bringing the question... if he was still happy after Morgan left, why is he leaving? I'm guessing it was a combination of a lot of things that we both do and don't know about. One not listed I can think MIGHT be a reason is maybe his closest friends on the team are going to be gone. Not sure what the circle of friends were... but I'm guessing Curt, Will, Carr and Taggart were all good friends with him... and I'm guessing especially Curt and Will. And with them leaving, and the coaching change on top of it, he doesn't have anything left he wants to stay for.

But I think ISU has a lot to offer him. He got to be an emcee because he was on the basketball team, I consider myself a funny guy in my circle of friends, but you won't find me being a VEISHEA emcee. He did get to sit on the firetruck in front of thousands of parade watchers. He did get a full ride scholarship to play basketball at ISU. ISU does offer a great variety of excellent programs of study for him to choose from. There are tons of fans who want to watch him be a leader of the basketball team and bring the ball up court for ISU. Heck, ISU took him to Hawaii for a basketball tourny he wasn't even going to play in. And it has been stated that ISU will adjust the style of play to it's players. And last I read/heard, it's going to be a fast paced game, the only difference from this year, is Defense will be emphasized, and that really shouldn't affect how fast our offense runs. They are D1 athletes, and should be in condition to run, if that's the style offense they want, AND play solid defense. Until I hear a good reason from him, I have no clue why he is better off leaving ISU.

I'm guessing it was almost entirely a matter of his friends were leaving, and he wasn't sure he wanted to stick around still. I think it is a rather odd decision, since he will sit for another year now, and only have 3 left to play. He doesn't stand a chance in his appeal. Which may keep him around. If he really doesn't want to lose a year, perhaps he will decide to stay in Ames? I know I would

I suggest he wanted to go through t5he recruiting campaign again to see what was better out there. When half the team leaves, it is easy to get excited to bail.

Maybe he wanted to switch majors by going to another school.

Actually it looks like WM and Tommy Ammaker of Michigan have something in common for Fernald.

Yeah, that was the ticket out.
