While portal season is exciting, I want to talk about the freshmen. It is hard these days it seems for freshmen to make an impact; under TJ its pretty much been Tamin and Milan. However, I do like the potential of these guys. Batemon is the highest rated and by all accounts can shoot the **** out of the ball. Toure is more under the radar, but a lot of people seem to think he may be the best of our recruits. Mitchell was the Wisconsin Gatorade player of the year. Pleta is not technically a freshman, but I included him as well. We'll see how his game translates.

I hope Batemon but TJ values defense so much I could see it being You're. I'm hoping 2/4 our good contributors

Our hit rate on this class really needs to be higher than the last few if we're going to sustain the success we've had.

I think it’ll help that we have some room for these freshmen to have opportunities. This year we returned so much in the backcourt that, prior to injuries, there wasn’t many opportunities for minutes.

I look at Thaad Pettiford the freshman guard from Auburn and think it would be REALLY nice if Batemon could come in and have a similar impact. Instant offense off the bench and just a spark to the team. Deadly shooter. They are somewhat similar recruits with similar playing styles.

I fully realize Pettiford has been incredible especially late in the year for Auburn.

Why not us though right?

T.J. has stated multiple times that he wants an 8 man rotation. Lipsey, Heise, Momcilovic, Jefferson, transfer big, Williams, and Mulder only leaves room for one freshman (at the moment) for playing time. That likely means it will be a guard so Bateman is the obvious choice.

I don't know why no one is picking Mitchell. He only averaged 35 points and double digit rebounds as a senior. I could definitely see him playing an off-guard spot, even though he's a forward. He has the handles to be an off guard, but could also sub for Momcilovic.

But if push came to shove, I would definitely pick Toure as the guy who might make an immediate impact just because of his defensive prowess, but I also think his offensive game is better than many people think. He's on a team with all kinds of scoring options, after all, and he just needs to be the defensive stopper.

I think Batemon will either be good enough to start right away or he'll get 15-20 minutes backing up Williams.

The other 3 I don't see having a future at ISU.
Need to see them play at this level. Some players elevate their game to the other players, some can't. Let's wait and see.

I think Pleta as a 21 year old has a shot and then I'm also very high on Batemon AND think Toure is probably underrated. No idea how it shakes out but I love the talent coming in.

My only concern is that I don't think Mitchell's strengths are stuff that translate right away and he'll need to get to like Darrion Williams at Tech levels of strength to make sure he gets to his spots.

Blindly as a fan the choice is Bateman. Has the the highest national rating and can shoot.
I feel Mitchell will have the best college career based on skill set.
if i know TJ, I think the obvious choice to get the most minutes next year the answer is Toure. TJ values defense more than anything when getting floor time and Toure is the most college ready defender.

I don’t know why so many on here seem to think because we’ve had a couple big name recruits not work out and transfer, next year’s freshmen won’t contribute. TJ has shown he’s willing to start freshmen (Tamin and Milan). And the success or failure of a freshman one season has no bearing on the success of a freshman coming in another season. I could see Batemon, Toure, and Pleta all getting significant minutes depending on our portal additions. If the season started today Starting: Tamin, Milan, JJ, Pleta, and Batemon. Heise, Toure, Mulder, Mitchell off the bench.

The Big 12 is a big leap from high school. Nobody knows how a freshman is going to handle it. Regardless of talent, some have the fortitude to get through it, some dont.

I want all of them to develope...play well...contribute...STAY AT ISU...and become our next generation of great Cyclones.
PS...and stomp the **** out of Iowa too.
It'll be interesting to see what Iowa brings to Ames later this year.
