I understand that, but everyone on here so far has stated that our 4-3 DE's (Pierson and Taylor) would be the DE's in the 3-4 as well. IMO, they would make more sense as OLB's.

That's why I'm pretty confident it's a package we will use, mostly in passing situations.

That would coincide then with what Beyer has been saying. Jones, Harris, Harvey, and Peters running as the ones. Probably means the twos are Northrup, Seeley, Mills, and Knott maybe?

Not sure I agree with the 3 man front though. I think it takes Pierson and Taylor's greatest strengths away from them..... rushing the QB.

There's often a 4th man in a 3 point stance a la Lawrence Taylor. There's much less difference in the two formations than you think. Just shade the line over and shade the backers the other way its basically a 4-3 just off-set.
If you walk the other OLB up then its basically a Bear formation.

According to Alex Halsted from Scout the starting LBs at the Girdiron Club scrimmage were Jones, Harris, Harvey, and Peters.
Yes, and things have changed since then. I will not disclose any more information. Like I said, those might be the 4 on the 5th, but as of right now they are not the 4

Okay, so I just re-watched the Cyclones.tv video where Wally talks about the 3-4 (from August 7). What he said was they'd like to play more 3-4 and he thinks our personnel will let us do that. He didn't talk much about the DL, but did mention playing two MLB to keep some size in the middle to stop the run. Said that Peters (at that time) played the "drop backer" and Jones played the SOLB/Nickel. He also said you can't just rush 3 all day, so we'd still play a 4 man front as well, mixing up both looks throughout the game. He also said that they got rid of some of the 3-4 based things they did last season and added some new things to the package.

Like others have said, there are a lot of ways to align a "3-4" so it could still look like 4 men on the LOS. Maybe Jones can fill that Rush End roll of speed rusher/force player while sometimes dropping into coverage. A nice thing about the 3-4 is that you can blitz from many different angles to confuse the OL/QB while still keeping 6 or 7 guys in coverage.

I think if I were Wally/wanting to do this 3-4 regular... I'd have

Thomas Tucker Taylor as the DL
Pierson as my standup rushbacker. Jones in a Hybrid LB/DB role, Harris as the MLB and Harvey as the other LB.

That actually makes sense in passing situations.
