Has anyone else noticed the sudden proliferation of people sitting in box store parking lots playing accordions or violins with a large speaker and begging for money? Over the past two weeks I have seen them at Target in Ankeny (two different times), Hy-vee on east 14 th in Des Moines, Altoona Target, and West Des Moines Target. It is not always the same people and I am not convinced they are actually playing the instrument. I just find it very odd how they keep moving around the metro. And their music is pretty darn loud.

They don’t really play instruments. They pretend to play and trick people into giving them money.

It almost seems like an organized scam. Here in the Twin Cities there was a guy and gal in the Lunds & Byerly's grocery parking lot. Some canned music but think he was actually playing. They looked like they might be from Peru or something. Didn't think much of it but now seeing similar at other locales.

I go to the Ankeny Target pretty frequently, and haven't seen them yet. Unless you're talking about the guy that sometimes sits in the grass on the drive just to the north of the stoplight.

I'm seeing panhandlers pop up at more street corners and on-ramps whenever I go downtown

No other replies mentioned seeing them. So I think its possible that you're the only one who can see them....Weird.....

Basically the same thing as other 'real' artists today. Back tracks, auto tuning, ghost writers. Nothing is real anymore.

The violin player was in Ames today... unless it's a band of modern day gypsies that have infiltrated the metro area.
