What happened to Martin Brothers Basketball

They were a power in Iowa and Midwest Basketball on the AAU Scene back in the early 2000s. When I was in HS they were the team to be on in the summer in Iowa. Did the rise of Kingdom Hoops and All Iowa Attack around a decade later cause the fall of MB?

They're still going and kicking out a few mid-major prospects here and there. They also focus a lot on smaller town kids that end up playing D2 and D3.

Two of UNIs incoming freshman are Martin Brothers kids.

If I remember correctly, the owner had some legal issues.
This is the story I was remembering, but it was the Barnstormers, not Martin Bros, and it was a coach, not owner.

I want to say I've still seen their jerseys around at events.

I remember Martin Brothers being the big one growing up too, but there's just so many of them now.

Yeah, they were the only ones for a long time. Now there are a ton of programs who honestly do a pretty good job.

I think Jared has talked about it a bit, but the grassroots basketball scene in Iowa has gotten a lot more developed and a lot of kids are given the opportunity to get better. I've said it a lot of times, but I have a 4th grader who plays some club basketball and some of the kids he plays against are absolutely insanely good.

Had a ton of friends growing up who’s parents forked out large sums of money for them to play AAU basketball. Only one of them ended up playing at the next level and it was for football. Many of them got burnt out by the time they graduated. Spend time with your friends, play baseball, track etc. If you’re good enough they will find you.

Martin Brothers is still around and still a solid program. Not the top tier in Iowa but strong. I’d guess location is a big reason. The central Iowa programs have an advantage and also Barnstormers draw heavily in that area.

Am I the only one that thought the dad should have thicker skin in that tweet exchange. AAU programs announce their rosters on social media all the time so coaches know who to expect to see when they recruit them. Yeah they could have said something like best of luck and I would guess they are a little salty based on the exchange but all they said is he’s not in our program any more.

While I agree with you that people spend way too much time and money on it the flip side is you basically don’t get recruited in basketball these days unless you play summer AAU basketball. Recruiting has shifted to the summer

Agree, but there are lazy ass posters like isufbcurt who are incapable of providing a reason why they disagree with this.

I was providing a reason but got delayed because I had to take a call. The reason I dumbed your response is I don't think the Dad overreacted. The MB post states personal reasons, that could be a wide range of reasons both reasonable and unreasonable. Instead of being cryptic with their post why not just say " To All College Coaches 2021 Carson Toebe is no longer affiliated with our program because he decided to concentrate on Baseball this summer."

Simple to the point and isn't cryptic.
