For me. In an ideal world have them carry Mike & Mike in the Morning where Cotler was, and than fill Marty and Miller with a predominantly Cyclone host to balance out John Miller. Since they are not an ESPN station and I dislike the Fox morning guys I guess run Dan Patrick in there, been a while since I have heard him on the radio but from what I remember he was pretty good.

I like the idea of Mike and Mike in the morning with a predominantly Clone host in the afternoon. It makes too much sense though. They'll either go all national or get some dip ***** in there to blather about the Hawks, and Clone fans will still listen anyways...

Joel McRea is probably reading this and acting on your prediction.

It's simple. If you want national sports shows than get XM. I like local based radio.

Get someone who has a passion for ISU . . . BTW J Miller did a pretty decent job today interviewing Bill F ref: ISU women's basketball. If he could sustain this balance between hawk mania and cyclone interviews . . . . he might actually be okay. If he gets the time slot . . .and keeps blabbering about the hawks . . he too will go the way of the dinosauer.

You can pick up KXNO in Kansas?

I don't know why you'd want KXNO to carry Mike & Mike, just tune to 1700 to hear them. My vote is to keep KXNO local, keep 1700 national ESPN. Replace Moron & Miller with a Cyclone slant, to balance out Jon Miller's show before it. Plus I'm still at work so I don't listen to Jon Miller's show but I'll listen to M&M (or replacement) on my way home and keep listening when I get home if they're talking about anything halfway interesting (hint: not horse racing or hockey).

Why/how would they get Mike and Mike? That is an ESPN show and 1700 is the ESPN affiliate.

I still have it set on my AM presets in my car and depending on the atmosphere I can actually occasionally pick it up in Lawrence. I am not a scientist but I know that AM radio waves can bounce somehow well beyond there initial broadcast range when the atmosphere is right. It is how they did radio free Europe during the cold war.

Also I don't know how new 1700 am is but I don't remember it when I moved away 2 years ago. If there is already an ESPN station in town than never mind. Just trying to say what my ideal line up would be.

Edit: I know they can't get Mike and Mike which is why I said Dan Patrick in the morning would be fine by me.

6-9: National radio

1-3: Jon Miller show

3-6: New local hosts

Radio after 6PM is pretty worthless for most people, which is why I changed the starting times in the afternoon.

Not sure in the morning

8-11 Dan Patrick (full show)
11-2 Jim Rome (full show)
2-4 Miller and a new co-host
4-7 New local show with National/regional focus.

Anything that has to do with FSR is junk. You are better off with a local show. Local shows are how KXNO makes money. They dont come close to filling all The DP and Rome shows ad slots. There is no way they could sell FSR ad slots.

I don't think Iowa has enough local sports to fill 5 hours per day unless you're happy listening to 95% drivel.

If there is going to be a local show, it should be from 4-6 or 4-7 when people who have jobs would have a chance to hear it. The best way would be a two host show with Jon Miller and someone to add a Cyclone slant and some humility to Jon's comical smugness about Iowa being a national power. I would do it myself, but I already have a job. But I'm sure the right host is out there somewhere.

sounds good to me

I dunno, after this "breaking news" of the dynamic duo of Garmen and Round Guy, it's starting to sound better and better.

I can already see the message board posters crying about too much Florida Gaytor and baseball talk. I can also for see ISU having a bad loss in basketball and hearing how we could've had Lon Kruger instead. :cute:

I still think Kruger would have been a great hire, but I'm past that... and I would limit Gator talk to a couple of minutes on Mondays unless something big went down . But I'd be the first to admit that I would have a tough time filling 10-15 hours by myself... What do you say Jon, lets partner up?!?!

I think it's been mentioned, but there isn't any way that KXNO could carry Mike & Mike, as KXNO is an FSR affiliate. Shows like Dan Patrick and Jim Rome are nationally syndicated, and be carried by anyone.

Lot of news today...for the first time in a long time, the sports page in the Register will actually be worth reading tomorrow.

Mike and Mike? Come on. Their act is incredibly old. Steve Czaban (national fox show) is by far the best option for the morning drive time. His is the best show in sports radio right now. Unfortunately you can't listen to him in Des Moines unless you have XM. But trust me, his show is gold and if KXNO chooses to air his show in the morning you will all be happy.
