To be honest, it’s mostly just unsightly. As long as you don’t let that bug you too much you’ll have a great time. The Rose Quarter (where the Moda center is) isn’t too bad. I don’t think it’s something that will be totally cleaned up in a years time as it is going to take systemic change for that to take place. The pandemic definitely made it worse so hopefully as we recover from that, the homeless issue will get better as well.

Portland rules. So much to do, one of the best restaurant scenes in a major US city, and is smack dab in the middle of the most beautiful area (imo) of the country. It really gets an undeserved bad rap. I’ll die on that hill :)
I’m with you. I think the areas that have active business communities keep pretty clean, we were up on Nw 23rd yesterday and it’s fine. I think they pay for that, though, themselves. The empty office buildings due to Covid haven’t helped in that regard.

This is a tough one. You have a place that has been there for like 80 years and has smelled bad for 80 years and somehow people are surprised that it stinks? It kind of reminds me of the people who complained that the train was so loud. Yes, the apartment that you built two blocks away from the train is loud.

With that said, I have to think Des Moines could pay the company off to move out of the Des Moines metro. Probably a win/win for both sides.

On a related note, if you're thinking about moving to Johnston, don't be surprised if at times it feels like you're in Iraq. We're 4 miles away from Camp Dodge and it's pretty common to hear gun fire and low flying helicopters. Camp Dodge was here long before my house was here so I can't complain.

Absolutely. NW 23rd is a great area and is always kept tidy. I live in SE off Hawthorne and while there is a bit of it over here, it’s not enough to bother me too much.

I used to work in the US Bancorp tower downtown but have been remote ever since Covid and plan on staying that way. I avoid that area like the plague.

Nice to see another Cyclone from pdx :)

Ahh big pink eh? My office was in the Lloyd center area, but I was remote from when I started before Covid so I rarely went in. Although I kind of want to visit the new pedestrian bridge on 7th.

Its not that bad … I love when the helicopters fly over my house.

I don't subscribe to the rag but the headline here pretty much tells it all.
Huge news for East Village. This will be a hot commodity for development.

Would be cool if UpDown could get in to whatever mixed use building/remodel they do and make it more like the KC location.

I get what you're saying but it's pretty embarrassing. Who cares that they have been there forever, it just means they have made the south side and downtown smelly forever, the city was here first and the citizens quality of life is more important, is it too much to ask that our capital and largest city not smell like boiling pig a holes lol? Hopefully the city can finally get them to leave or make them do something about the smell.

What's the KC one like? I really like the junky basement vibe the lower level has in DSM. The expanded upper level is fine, but if the the KC one is just like a bigger version of the upper level I'm not sure I'd like that as much.

It’s in a cool building. Multiple levels, way bigger main bar, rooftop patio seating, just more space but still really cool with the same kind of vibe as Des Moines.

I’m not a subscriber so maybe someone can share cliff notes
But if the headline is accurate, are the fed just hell bent on driving people from downtown?

I’ll believe it when it’s finished

I got way too excited for the Mandelbaum projects that’s just a parking garage now
