I'm wondering now how Princeton has played 5 less games than we have.

All of the Ivy schools have 27-29 games. Probably a combination of 4 fewer conference games and/or no holiday MTE.
Yes the MTEs are a big difference since you can count 4 games as 1 toward your maximum. Also, ISU played 2 conference tournament games while Princeton lost in their first Ivy league tournament game.

How did Princeton even make the tournament? One quad 1 win and losses to Duquense, Quinnipiac, Portland, Columbia (twice) and lost in the semifinal on the Ivy League tournament. How the heck did they get a bid?

The biggest head-scratcher post-COVID was also an Ivy (Columbia last season). Perhaps the selection committee likes giving Ivies the benefit of the doubt?

I don't pretend to know much about the women's tournament bubble so maybe there weren't many good options, but man that's a brutal resume for a tournament team.

The first four out were:
Virginia Tech
James Madison
St. Joseph's
Colorado

Compare Princeton against those.

Yeah, this year is a good example of not being able to look at a single team in isolation.

  • Princeton: 1-3 Q1, 3-1 Q2, 4-3 Q3
  • VA Tech: 1-8 Q1, 4-2 Q2, 3-2 Q3. Virtually identical NET as Princeton. A coin flip between VT and Princeton IMHO. RPI likes Princeton WAY better.
  • James Madison: 0-3 Q1, 2-0 Q2, 3-1 Q3, 23-1 Q4. Super weak schedule and best win was neutral court vs. #50 Florida.
  • St. Josephs: 2-2 Q1, 1-2 Q2, 2-2 Q3, 17-3 Q4. Way too many bad losses.
  • Colorado: 2-8 Q1, 2-2 Q2, 4-1 Q3, 12-1 Q4. Q4 loss was back on Nov 10. Not a great NET or RPI. Still, I think they could have been a viable choice.
Based on this, I don't think I can argue against Princeton, but I think VA Tech and Colorado could have been reasonable selections as well.

In regard to Colorado, does the tournament have any rules against conference mates facing off in the first four? That may have been a factor. I could see if we had lost to Colorado and everything else the same, we may have switched places.
