DSL maybe an option there, but we don't know if that will meet her employer's "high speed internet" requirements (she grades papers for Western Governors U, get your mind out of the gutter). 95% of what she does is download an Office document and upload the graded document. Don't know why "high speed" is required, but whatever.

The kids are what I'm worried about - they use data over our wifi like crazy. YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, Netflix, Amazon Prime... my modem says we used 695GB in January. Avg over 600GB/month from Nov through today.

Ouch. I don't know that you are going to find much for hot spot price plans anywhere near that much usage. The biggest plan for my provider is 50 GB, then $5 per gig if I go over.

You will need to get a second job to pay for a Verizon Hotspot with that type of data usage.

How many kids do you have? My kids average about 20GB per month and they are on quite a bit.

Something else to consider is to get them their own device. If you all have your own phone, you will each get 20GB of data or so.

Also, may want to ask around about local service providers. We had Windstream at 3 and they told us we were too far to get any faster. Found out about a local line-of-sight guy with antennas on top of silos and now get 25. For less money and no caps.

Four kids, wife and I. Three smart phones, two iPads, three Kindles and three laptops plus the desktop. Also a PS4, but we don't game online though it still uses some data for updates. Our youngest is only two - each of the older kids already has their own device(s).

My wife loves the house and wants to believe it will work but I don't think she realizes how connected we are beyond what she does for work.

The smart phones would have their own data package, the iPads could have their own. That leaves the computers using the hotspot

We got the iPads with no cell hardware. They're both pretty old, I don't know if you can even get wifi only iPads anymore.

My wife has been looking into something called Unlimited To Go, that other homeschooling/unschooling families use when trucking around the country in an RV. They say its unlimited with no caps, using other providers' networks. Reviewers say that you can use a lot more data than the major cell providers give, but they will throttle if they "determine your usage is excessive." No indication of what is excessive though.

I'm guessing 600G/month is excessive.
You may have to limit your time on CF.

With the recent rash of snow days, our family with 2 boys exceeded 500G/month pretty easily. I started limiting them I knew we were getting close to going over the cap, so any family with homeschooling could easily hit 600GB
