It was at the All-Star meet that took place last Monday in Oregon.

I knew it had to be recent. The breaking news across the bottom was BCS has #1 LSU, #2 Kansas, #3 West Virginia, #4 Missouri, #5 Ohio State, #6 Arizona, and so on. And I did see Home of the Ducks on the wall with alot of Green and Yellow in the arena. I just did not see anything about it on the schedule. Does anyone know why that is?

It's an "exhibition" meet where the outcomes don't count towards the wrestlers' records. It's supposed to showcase the top wrestlers in the country at each weight. The location of the meet changes each year. It wasn't on the schedule because there's no guarantee ISU will have a wrestler in it. About a month or so prior to the meet, the NWCA extends invites to wrestlers. Not all accept (Iowa's Mark Perry) for whatever reasons. Not wanting to dodge anyone, Varner accepted and wrestled.

Thanks I needed that! I have been a wrestling fan for about the last 7 years, and I am still learning a few things. It is just sad that most of my knowledge has had to come from my wife. She knows what she is talking about, I just feel weird getting sports information from,...... A GIRL!

Which is it, was she the Wrestling team's manager, or were her brothers wrestlers? 98% of the time, it's one of those two.

The reason it was in Oregon this year is that they are trying to get the west coast more interested in college wrestling. There are a lot of programs on the west coast that are dropping the wrestling team because of Title IX.

But Oregon is dropping wrestling and adding baseball (and "competitive cheer" -- WTF?!?). They've hired the CS-Fullerton coach already, and are pouring $$$ into baseball -- all most likely due to the back-to-back national championships won by Oregon State.

Plus, Phil Knight makes a lot more $$$ off sales of baseball equipment/apparel than he does off of wrestling equipment/apparel.

It rotates around to different regions of the country. The event has been in Iowa seven times out of 42:

at UNI - Feb 04, Feb 88, Feb 84
at Iowa - Jan 96, Jan 92, Feb 80
at ISU - Apr 70

I think it is a joke for OU to drop wrestling. They are simply adding baseball because the Beavs have been successful and it irritates them to no end that the Ag school is better than them in ANYTHING. Remind anyone of an institution of lower learning east of Ames??? Phil Knight probably tips what the wrestling program there costs a year to sponsor. I think the previous poster put it best that he can make more money selling baseball gear. Knight is the defacto AD of OU and the school is effectively letting him make business decisions with their athletic programs.

Anyone hear if there's any story behind the extra curricular activity at the end?

(I admit it, I had to look up how to spell curricular.)
