Since we play the West Coast version of Latter Day Rebels on Saturday, here is all you need to read to understand the opponents mascot:

UNLV - Campus opened way back in 1957 (old Nevada Southern)

First mascot was Beauregard - he was a fanged, winking black and white cartoon wolf dressed in gray military outfit representing the south in Civil War - a slam at University Nevada at Reno mascot (wolfpack of the Civil War north).

Second mascot -Local Blacks in 70s complained about civil war was tied into it, so the forward looking student people voted in a Colonial human Rebel mascot. They almost made Rebel into a Minuteman character.

Third Mascot - Then in the 80s they started selling Hey reb apparel like the big time which was a long mustachio cartoon Rebel. So they stayed Rebel cartoon. $$$Bucks won out. And Hey Reb is not 7 feet tall like Cy.

HERE COMES THE SCARLET AND GREY (love that color combo....so metro sexual)

You will see as many UNLV fans in stands today as you saw Toledo fans last week. Clone fans will move early in their section.
In '99 we had over 5,000 fans in Vegas for a huge tailgate at Sam Boyd and a shut out game. Clones will travel and rebels stay home. Iowa is a great place to be FROM!
