Way up there
I also noted this curious line in the article. "Also congratulations to the Notre Dame athletic department as it has now sold out more consecutive bowl games than it has home football games."

Since I know nothing about ND's consecutive home game vs bowl game sell outs, I must assume that they haven't sold out their own stadium in a while?

They sold out 273 straight games until this November against Navy, was the 2nd longest behind the Bugeaters.

So a little research tells me that when they added the upper decks they added 18,000 seats. And when the lower bowl was renovated they ended up with 41,000 seats - all with seat backs. Doesn't quite add up to the stated capacity, but it is close.

So that must mean that a lower bowl "sellout" plus people starting to fill the upper decks must put the anticipated attendance at somewhere around 45,000. Does that sound about right?

If that's right, it's very impressive! Our fans are awesome! Whether it's an "official" sell-out or not, 45,000 can't be understated. I hate watching bowl games where it looks like the attendance is a high school semi-final game

And if it turns out the crowd is larger for their opponent, ND fans probably claim it's because of the honor of playing Notre Dame.

Probably? Absolutely they will.

This fan base still thinks Rockne and the 4 Horsemen era is alive.

I really really want the good guys to curb stomp the Irish. Steal their name and become the "Fighting Cyclones"

Reading that story, it seems that they're using "initial market" to mean the school's allotment.

Plus, the ND tweet referenced has been deleted and reposted without the term "sold out."

So, the game itself isn't "sold out" -- but apparently Notre Dame's allotment is.

Seems like their story was written in order to sell more tickets that we being held by some Notre Dame entity.

I don't know how CWB counts sellouts. I also acknowledge that the article is from a ND source. All I know is ISU sold out its allotment and we have a solid reputation for traveling to bowl games that landed us in this bowl game. So it's all good to me.

Go Cyclones and safe travels to everyone.

This game isn’t sold out now and will not end up sold out.

And I’m not sure why everyone is calling Norte Dame’s fans arrogant. They have every right to be disappointed as their expectations are the playoff or bust.
