Those are the years that I know for fact your statement is NOT true.

Please allow me to rephrase my statement. Since ISU has been in existance, there has never been a year when Iowa has enrolled more Iowa high school seniors than ISU.

Iowa will enroll their largest freshman class ever this fall (a class that might even end up being as large as ISU's freshman class), but the majority of their entering freshmen will be nonresidents. And the vast majority of these nonresidents will be from Illinois. This is why people sometimes jokingly refer to Iowa as the University of Western Illinois.

ISU has a larger undergraduate enrollment, and a larger full-time enrollment. Iowa has more graduate and part-time students. ISU's residence hall system, Greek system, intramural system, number of student clubs and organizations are all significantly larger than Iowa's.

But Iowa took the state's nickname back in the 1800's and claimed it as their own, and now they claim the state is named after them.

If you stop and consider all of the land grant institutions around the nation, how many do you know of that aren't called some form of ____ State U, A&M, Tech, etc. The only ones that don't have some form of those names are usually the flagship institution of that state (i.e. Nebraska, Wisconsin, etc.).

I don't think a name change would ever occur for ISU. It's just not worth buying all new stationary! :biglaugh:

Correct. This whole deal should make Iowa fans uneasy, not elated.

This thread does show one important thing - ISU is completely and utterly alone in this fight. Even though we are all Iowans, most Iowa fans do not care what fate lies ahead for ISU. You would think that their allegiance would be to the state first and the conference second. Outside of Iowa fans, peoplpe that are not involved in sports don't understand why it's a big deal. We are in this all alone. If we make it through to another BCS conference, we'd better get our program elevated. And remember not to rely on anybody, even the general Iowa population.
Amen!!!

One of the current candidates for Iowa governor basically tried to do the very thing the OP mentioned the last time he was in office. Polls seem to indicate that this candidate is going to be Iowa's next governor. So what's to stop him from trying it again this time around?

Is a vote for Branstad a vote for the "University of Iowa at Ames" ??
