Why do we sub so much? I know we were in foul trouble tonight but I have seen it in the other games as well. Especially our guards. How can these guys get any kind of run going when we plug different people in all the time? I am most upset because I believe we were out-coached tonight. UNI should NEVER leave Hilton with a win.

It was UNI's first win at Hilton since 1997, which interesting enough was Tim Floyd's last year. That team went 12-18 with a freshman named Marcus Fizer. That team also had ISU's worst guard court I can remember... This year's guards may cause us to forget how bad 1997 was.

I know this is a kneejerk reaction but maybe our coach wasn't the brains behind UNI becomming good - check that - I apologize for that thought.

Re: UNI Game thoughts

Looks like you are now in negative territory.

I think McD builds for conference games and he is getting inept people into the game to train them for a few minutes in Janauary. Tough way to go - headed for 10-12 win season at best.

The guard play, not talking about Wes here, is just not very good. No points, no rebounding, no defense, no dribble penetration. Basicly the guard are not being guards. Peterson just is no help at all. Huluska has been terrible. Garrett does a couple thing right and then 5 wrong. It is going to be a very long season.

Depth?!?!?

Not much there and it is killing the team. The post game show centered around why the team plays well for the first 6 minutes of each half and then has a problem scoring, defending, and rebounding. Tonight is a perfect example...our only points off the bench came from Garrett. Haluska, zip. Thompson, zip. Vette, zip, CJ, zip, and the list goes on. I am really disappointed in the quality of our players coming off the pine. It will be a long year in the Big 12 unless we start getting some rebounding and/or scoring production from the bench guys.

Re: Depth?!?!?

If you win 7 or 8 games in conference, you need to win 10 in non conference to go NIT. We are due in 2010.

Positives and negatives

Fisrts, the bad news. No dribble penetration and lousy rebounding will result in too many losses. Outside shooting is also quite an adventure right now.

Good news: Only 7 turnovers.

5 games in I thought we would be 3-2, not 2-3, but we all can't be nostradamous.

I am just glad that we don't have a HyVee Cy-Panther series going. They would smoke us this year!

My issue with our loss to UNI

I never have been a basketball guy, more into wrestling. I love watching us win though.

Anyways, I realize we lost to UNI, and its our coach's second year into this program, and that is means for accepting tough losses. But UNI coach is theoretically in his second year coaching his team. I find that sets us on equal levels and the more talented team would win.

Is this flawed thinking?

Yes. He was an assistant with Greg all along, already had the players and is very familiar with a very similar if not pretty much the same system.
