I'm going to keep this one brief. The ladies came out of the blocks very slow...somewhat similar to the men tonight. KU took off to a 6-0 lead before Kidd hit a trey. It would be the last basket of the game for Kidd. That should tell you something. In a nutshell, only a couple of ladies made an offensive presence tonight. It was catchup the rest of the first half. They scratched back to within six at the break. A telltale sign would be that at the half the team had two assists.
The second half started out just like the first as the offense flatlined and KU worked out to a double digit lead. Every time the ladies would make a run the offense would then flatline again and allow KU to pull away. It took until the final few minutes that the team made one last push and actually pulled within two, but it wasn't enough. Gardner almost single handedly won the game for KU hitting nearly all of her free throws and making as many as the entire ISU squad could manage.
the bottom line of this game was having two players make the contributions on the offense and on the boards. The team only had six assists and Moody and Seanna were the only ISU players in double figures. Brynn disappeared for much of the game only taking three shots in the first half. Fallon fought but was limited to 9 points and seven boards, but for the most part this was the Seanna/Moody show.
in the end the ladies lost as they had to foul and try to catch up. It didn't work. Final 68-64 and another loss to a team that shouldn't be on the same playing level as the sisters. For some reason this team managed to give up wins to nearly everyone including the bottom dwellers while swinging a mighty bat to knock off the top end as well. I suppose that is the definition of a 9-9 team.
POG again is Moody. The senior ended her last Big 12 season playing the best ball of her career. She managed 21 points tonight. A very, very close runner up is Seanna who did a little of everything getting another double double with 16 points and 10 boards. It's fun to think we have her for two more years. If both don't make the all conference teams it is an insult.
KU led in practically every category statistically. They just played better team ball.
Next up is the Big 12 tournament. The seeding is set for ISU and they will be the #5 team and will play OSU in the first round and probably Baylor in round two. Not a good matchup as OSU swept the sisters and Baylor will be wanting to make a point. See you there!
