'Twas the night before kickoff, this time at the Jack
and the Cyclone and Hawk fans were done talking smack.
Iowa State had a win, and the Hawks dodged a bullet,
and the staff of Jack Trice prepared for the mullets.

The coach for the Cyclones was new, with the spread,
and visions of touchdowns danced in our heads.
There was Wally and Herman and of course C-P-R,
The State future was bright, they will carry us far.

The players were snuggled in their bed for the night,
Quietly contemplating the next morning's fight.
The grounds crew was busy manicuring the lawn,
and the tailgaters prepared to begin before dawn.

Then Saturday came, and festivities started,
Although one team would leave the Jack broken-hearted.
There were brats, beers and burgers and steaks cooked Teriyaki,
And Wally was perfecting slowing down Moeaki.

A big sea of Cardinal dominated the stands,
as they enjoyed the performance of the Iowa State Football VARSITY Marching Band,
A light rain was falling, it was more like a sprinkle,
and the Hawk fans plotted to have sex where they tinkled.

When out of the tunnel there arose a big cloud,
And the Cyclone fans jumped up and cheered very loud.
Coach Rhoads led his troops on the field for the battle,
As the fans got their keychains ready to rattle!

"Now Darius, Darius, Austen and Frere!
Go hit the field and kick Iowa's rear!
On, A-Rob! On, Sims, On Smith and Mahoney,
Let's tee it up and expose the big phoneys!"

"To the flip of the coin,
To the kick of the ball!
Now dash away! Dash away!
Dash away all!"

The first quarter was nothing to write home to mother,
as the two teams were cautious getting used each other.
The Hawkeyes struck first, a field goal from the twenty,
but the Cyclones answered when Arnaud passed to Money.

It was 7 to 3 as the second began,
As the two coaching staffs began adjusting their plan.
Stanzi got in a rhythm and and hit a wide open Morse,
who waltzed into the endzone, untouched, of course.

But the Cyclones would answer, as quick as a mouse,
As Sims took the kickoff, and took it to the house .
The Trice crowd erupted as the 'Clones took the lead,
But they knew that was not all the Red Storm would need.

For the half was not over and the Hawkeyes regrouped,
as this time the Cyclone defense got duped.
They went deep in the playbook, with a reverse to Stross
The Clones over pursued, and the lead became lost.

It was 17-14 Hawkeyes at the break,
as the two teams retreated to rest in the Jake.
Then the second half started and State was refocused,
as they took control over the black and gold locusts.

Arnaud engineered a 14 play drive,
As A-Rob put the bow on it with a TD from the five.
The offense was clicking, the defense became stout
as a pick six by L.J. ended all doubt.

28-17 was the score in the fourth,
but the Hawkeyes were stymied, and State moving North.
Another great drive, and a Mahoney kick
with the exiting bumblebees feeling sick.

Another State win in the house north of Des Moines,
another loss for St. Kirk and his 4 million in coin.
It's not like it's anything he hasn't seen,
he's 1-5 at the Jack, this time, 31-17.

The Cyclones gathered in front of the students,
celebrating the win with them seemed very prudent.
They yelled and they cheered and they sang the fight song,
as the Cy-Hawk returned to the Jake.....where it belongs.
