I got a chance to tour the new alumni center today and all I have to say is WOW! Finishing work is taking place right now and there is a fair amount left, but that place is going to be nice. In my opinion, it will become the preferred place for large group events especially weddings.

They told me they will be ready for the first tailgate on August 28th!

Does this mean they will soon be making twice the amount of annoying phone calls for more money now that they'll have more space?

The new building may seem a bit extravagant, but it's on par with our peers and will bring in a nice amount of revenue all on its own through room rentals.

No matter what you think, the Alumni Association needed SOMETHING new with the former situation.

Are they still located in the Memorial Union?

No...they were in Fischer-Nickell Hall...which was by all means a hell-hole from the looks of it. I believe it's getting torn down and turned into a parking lot for the Hixson-Lied Student Success Center.

My own opinion is that too much of their revenue is funneled into their salaries, one in particular.

I don't know who you are referring to, but the Alumni Association has never been stronger. That doesn't happen by accident. Somebody knows what they are doing.

What amazes me is how many people work for the ISU Foundation. Not that they aren't all making a difference for Iowa State, but the payroll for all those people has to be significant.

Fischer-Nickell was horrible. the SALC offices in the basement were extremely cramped and hard to get some of the large projects they work on (Homecoming, Cyclone Alley, Senior Council, etc) finished with the limited amount of space and storage.

Alum Assoc. offices were also small and cramped. It'll be nice for them to have a good facility and also a better place for SALC to do what they do.

With all this extra room, does this mean that Jeff Johnson has more room to practice his new pre-game cheers???
