It's just hilarious people are worried about this. It's going to be Matt Cambles offense either way, even if Candle was the OC. Just be glad we didn't hire someone externally like you morons want, forcing said coach to run an offense he doesn't know. That's how trouble and clashing starts.

If this was with the DC job, then I understand the worrying since our HC isn't a former DC.

But yet he played defense in college???

Look, whomever it is, Matt has a full grasp at things and I believe he knows what he is doing. He'll be fine...

End of story.

I didn't miss anything...look at it from a non-ISU perspective. If this happened at Iowa, people on here would be talking about how they were reaching and what a crappy hire it is. Fact.

I won't but you can... Review all the coordinator hires this year and let us know how many made lateral moves and how many went to big programs with a promotion from position coach to coordinator.

I have no idea what kind of play caller he'll be, but this guy is smart, one heck of a worker and a big time competitor. If those are indicators of success, I think Tom will be fine.
From my limited knowledge in game play calling is the easiest part of a being OC. It's the behind the scenes work like, developing game plans, installing plays, developing players, execution of the game plan that is the difference between success and failure.

If they can't execute the plays then it doesn't matter if you call a perfect game. It's only easy if you do the work necessary to be ready in game. Sometimes you have to make due with a 'weak link' and that's when its no longer easy to make those play calls.

I agree but it takes both. I've seen teams lose games because they won't stay with what is working. You need to install the plays etc but on game day you have to figure out what is working and use it.

Guy was co-OC, one of the best line coaches, knows the style of offense CMC wants to run. Solid hire. For the last 7 years I've watched horrible offense from ISU with the occasional amazing game. I'm ready to see somthing click on that side of the ball
