Thoughts about next year?

I think we will be better next year. Melvin has added to his game every year, I bet next year he comes back a better shooter and will be a real threat from 3. Fred does a great job of putting the team together, and figuring out the rotation and how we are going to play. We are at our best at the end of the season.

The one thing we need to do is figure that out a little sooner, so we get a better seed. It will always be very difficult as a 8 seed or worse to advance deep in the tournament.

Just my opinion, this is what our starting lineup will look like by the end of next season (I say by the end because I don't think Monte will start off as our starting PG)

Monte Morris - Yahoo! Sports

Matt Thomas - Yahoo! Sports

Sherron Dorsey-Walker - Yahoo! Sports

Melvin Ejim - Yahoo! Sports

Georges Niang - Yahoo! Sports

Yes I realize that line-up has three freshman in it, but you have to start your most talented players. Count me in as one of the people that is really excited about Dorsey-Walker as well. I think he will fit the system well and he gives us another ball handler in the line-up

I heard from a credible source Monte will be the starter from the get go.

I think your underestimating how much we will miss lucious, clyburn, babb and McGee. I think we will be a fun team to watch and a tournament team next year but not better than this years team. The more I think about this team the more sad I get. So talented offensively and could have won the big 12 if things would have fallen correctly.

I have been bragging up Fred, but next year we will have to remember he will be working with young guys. Not seniors. Not men like Babb and Korie and Will.

I've been wallowing in my alcohol long enough - time to try and put this behind me.

That said - I REALLY think Coach Hoiberg will have as good if not better success with the young guns than he did with the transfer crew. One of the things you can't ever question is that the longer you do something, the more ingrained it gets. Look at this from a basketball skill standpoint - would you say it's easier to work on changing your release on your jump shot when you're in 8th grade vs a senior? Exactly.

Once you have a few years of college ball under your belt, you're pretty much a known commodity. Sure, you can tweak things here and there, but think of how much better guys could be when spending a full 4-5 years under Fred's tutelage?

It's not like our new guys coming in are slouch's either - Winners and ballers all around.

I can't wait until next year. Last year was the return to the dance. This year was the repeat and proved the system is working, plus got the recruiting pipeline opened up a bit. Next year we blow the doors off this thing and put the pedal to the metal.

Lets red shirt Ejim and put all of our eggs in a basket for 2014. Georges as a Junior, Ejim a 5th year senior, and our two incoming studs will have a year experience.

He's pretty athletic, a slasher who can finish at the rim and hit the three. IMO he'll play major minutes at the SF for ISU next year.
Dustin Hogue - YouTube

He did have offers from Iowa, Missouri, and Washington State among others.

Completely agree, the fact people don't think Hogue starts from day 1 is hilarious. He is a babb-Clyburn combo. He won't have the outside range but will be great on defense, rebounding, slashing to the lane, and used to playing at a higher level. He will start day 1. To me, the 1 and 2 spots are the only positions up in the air.

Next year is going to be interesting. It is always hard to tell how JUCO players will translate. Ejim and Niang will be very good. The key will be whether we have guards step and play well.

I agree that Hogue looks like he has the athleticism to become a good defender, and he'll pick up some points and boards around the hoop. He may have to guard the teams best backcourt player, depending on how good the new comer guards are.

Plus, a lot of people think the only way wings can score is the 3, but having a guy who is good off the drive is very nice and can really help open the outside up for our shooters.

Lastly, I bet that his 3-pt shoot improves under Fred..... Just a hunch.

Agreed, the kid averages over 12pts/game now with at least 2-3 other division 1 players on the team. He will be a fan favorite imo.

Who are the "leaders" next year? Ejim, Palo, and Niang, but Idk if there is someone like KL stepping up and calling ppl out when they need it. I'm still extremely excited to see what this young team can accomplish even if next year is a rebuild. Fred hasn't let us down yet and I have no reason to think he will in the future.

Niang and Ejim will be plenty for calling people out. Strong characters and natural leaders.

I think Ejim can do it. He know he'll have to lead the team from a vocal standpoint. Captains will be Ejim and Niang I bet.

Agreed. Watching postgame interview of Niang yesterday told me that he's not going to forget that loss. He's going to use it as motivation, as all great players do.

30 wins next year.
