Iowa has no wideouts. Put 7-8 in the box to stop Albert Young & we're good. I really doubt that Iowa can stop Blythe, Nickel, Barkema, Sumrall.

Dont forget Flynn and hopefully davis, maybe even Hamilton and Messiah if they make and early impact.

Flynn is perhaps the most underrated of them all. My apologies for neglecting to mention the most selfless player there is. I really like our offense if we can give Meyer some time and McCarney doesn't fall in love with Stevie up the middle on that insipid draw play they always try to run.

What is your take on Iowa's offense? What do they have at TE? I know they lost Ed Hinkel and Clinton Solomon at WR.

do you have the power to put the smack down on that dork? If so, please exterminate.
The only thing that worries about iowa is their running game against our very inexperienced defense.
10-4, Over and out.

They have a good, albeit overrated, set of TEs in Chandler and another who's name escapes me at the moment. but other than that, they have no offesive weapons in the pass game.

Yeah, sometimes I think the fact we do not have a proven kicker for kickoffs is an often overlooked fact that could be a major question mark this season.

Yelk's booming kicks rarely gave the opposing team the oppoutunity to start beyond the 20-25 yard line. This is huge from a defensive and crowd involvement standpoint.

I dont know too much about the depth at kicker this season, but the opportunities for our defense to set up our offense will be much better if somebody can fill yelk's shoes. If not, its only going to be that much tougher to make a stand with young defensive squad.

Lets hope we can find somebody.

The fact that we don't have a kicker who kicks it as deep as Yelk did is not overlooked by anyone, and in fact, is given too much play by most people, IMO. When Yelk was injured two years ago, Shaggy kicked off and while he was not Yelk, he got it to the 5 or better on occassion. His problem was consistency, as he also had some kicks that only went to the 20.

However, that was TWO YEARS AGO. He has had plenty of opportunity to develop more leg strength since then. I would be amazed if he didn't consistently get it to at least the 5 on every kick now. But he's not even going to be the one kicking off this season. Mahoski is going to be the kicker on kickoffs and he consistently booms them at least to the end zone.

Also, observers at the spring game came away feeling better about the punting game. Brantner, the walk-on punter, did a fairly decent job from what I heard.

Iowa has no wideouts. Put 7-8 in the box to stop Albert Young & we're good. I really doubt that Iowa can stop Blythe, Nickel, Barkema, Sumrall.

Two things I worry about the UofI game. While I think we can stop/contain/limit Young, if we commit to it, 1 is: Chandler the TE for playaction and drags: and 2: Tate hooking up with any wideout (i think he is a good passer) by putting the pass right where it needs to be against any DB.

Now we can solve the second with pressure, which will happen sometimes, but probably not most times. So I am banking on the "no pass" line on that craps table.

But with the first worry, Chandler, should have a good if not very good game against us. But not good enough to win the game just to keep it close.

i see the key match up in this game: How the UofI handles the threatS ISU has on every skill postion. If they can shut down 3/4th's of the threats we could be in trouble. But I don't think they can. Most they can handle is 2 of the 5 at any one time.

ISU over UofI in a Offensive shoot out, lead by ISU. ISU by 10+.

My other worry is that they'll be severely pissed off after that butt-whooping they took on national television last year. Not to mention Mr. Pollard's advertisements.
