I knew the double cheeseburger's days on the value menu were numbered. That was just too good of a deal for 99 cents.

Wondered that same thing when I went to McDonalds two nights ago for the first time in over a year. Apparently the "McDouble" has taken the place of the Double Cheeseburger on the value menu. The Double Cheeseburger itself is now a whopping $1.39.

Probably trying to make some quick coin on people ordering out of habit, the Double Chee probably is their most ordered item...

McDonald's is dirty in general. Food has gotten worse and worse and I am sick of them. They do make some good fries though.

They add "Mc" to the name and take away a peice of cheese then jack up the price by 40 cents????????

No, the McDouble is on the dollar menu. It has one less slice of cheese than the double cheeseburger.
BTW, this decision to remove the doublecheese from McD dollar menu has been in the works a while. In an article from Meatingplace magazine's April 08 issue, (if you want to read it, the link is for registered users Meatingplace.com - Help / Member Functions but it's free to register) it said dollar/value menus keep people from ordering off the premium menu. A financial consultant said, "...already 10 percent of McDonald's franchisees don't carry the double cheeseburger on their value menu. "I expect that number will grow, and by the end of the year we may not see the double cheeseburger on the dollar menu any more at McDonald's."

I also actually read that the double cheeseburger was actually more expensive to produce than they were selling it for on the dollar menu. Ergo they were losing money whenever they sold a double cheese. Which I assume brought along the save a slice of cheese strategy.

Funny. Having been close to some McDonald's corporate management, the original argument for putting the double cheeseburger on the dollar menu was that it didn't matter if they were losing money on the doublecheese, because the customer would buy a coke and fries as well. What really mattered was sales volume. And McDonalds was losing market share.

Interesting how thought shifts over the years.

The coke and fries is where McDonald's made (makes) all their money. I don't know about the fries, but a fountain coke costs them a few cents and they sell it for a dollar or so.
