This has been pointed out before but the lost TV's because of MU leaving and WV replacing them is just not that big. I lived in KC for quite awhile. There are more KU fans than anything (Lawrence is very close to KC). Lots of ISU and KSU fans too. I lived on the Kan side and it seemed like most of the people on the MO side rooted for the Chiefs. The Mizzo tigers do not own that market, not by any means. I've heard similar things about St. Louis. Lots of Big 10 and professional fans. Mizzo? Not so much. And WVU will bring a brand new fan base. In academics there is no comparison; MU > WV. But TV is not as big a deal as most think. Almost all of the KC market will continue to follow the B12 if MU leaves.

That means only one thing.

The state of Iowa must invade either Missouri or Nebraska to maintain open routes to friendly territories. :wideeyed:

Why can't we invade some other state where we are:

A. Likely to actually see people, and

B. Not likely to hear a banjo and a guitar dueling it out.

???

Good thing Baylor and ISU didn't sign away their right to sue A&M and/or SEC.

Our choices are what, Nebraska, Minnesota, Missouri, and Illinois and (maybe) Wisconsin?

If the goal is a land bridge to the Big IVXII, then Missouri makes the most sense. If we want access to sea lanes and lots o' beer, then Wisconsin makes the most sense

I assume you're being sarcastic, but actually ISU and Baylor didn't sign away their right to sue. The SEC said we're okay with taking the risk upon ourselves of being sued.

Read my post again. I think you're confused. I'm laughing at the SEC and A&M who thought they were in the clear by assuming the risk on their own without waivers from ISU and Baylor.

Talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't want to commit to B12 because of stability issues. B12 has stability issues because they won't commit. But they won't commit because of stability issues, and round and round and round.

So... the conference members want a long-term commitment? Long-term commitments would mean... stability. But Mizzou can't commit??

Hello?

And this post kind of sums up realignment for the last month and a half. Nobody wants to stay in the Big 12 because they say its not stable. Yet the only ones saying that are the only ones with power and they don't want to commit to making it stable either. The cycle will never end...Mizzou, all you have to do is commit to stability and then that will ensure more stability.

My bad. I thought the guy laughing was at ISU and Baylor.

Got to laugh at this thing. I'm pumped up for the Clones taking on Missery next week, regardless of whether they stay or go. Haven't liked them since Pinkel whined about calls he didn't get in Mac's last game. Tired of the BS. Will they make one last kiss-up to the B1G or continue to court the SEC? The best irony that I can imagine is ISU, KU and K-State getting a B1G invite along with ND, while Missery languishes in the SEC.

Rutgers would be in ahead of KSU. The only KSU ever gets into the Big 10 is if they magically get an AAU invite.

Again, thought this write up the KU beat writer was interesting...

7:47 p.m. Update:
Well, after four-plus hours, Missouri's board of curators officially authorized MU chancellor Brady Deaton to explore the school's options for moving to another conference or staying in the Big 12.
This certainly isn't ground-breaking news, but it's not the news the Big 12 would've loved to hear, which would've been that the Tigers are happy in the Big 12 and staying put.
That still could be the outcome, but, for now, we'll have to keep waiting on Mizzou.
Here's a recap of the press conference that followed the meeting.
Mizzou takes next steps out of Big 12 - Big 12 Blog - ESPN
In related news, Deaton resigned his post as the chairman of the Big 12's board of directors.
I wouldn't read too much into that move. Sources have said that if Deaton were given the power to negotiate for a new conference, he likely would step down from that position because of a conflict of interest.
It will be interesting to see who replaces him but that's the least of the league's concerns right now.
It's great that we know what they're thinking over there in Columbia, Mo., but, really, do we know much more than we did this morning? We're still waiting on Mizzou to make a decision and the Tigers have said that they have no time table for such an announcement.
Fear not, says Big 12 interim commissioner Chuck Neinas: “Missouri is a member in good standing in the Big 12, and I anticipate will continue to be a member of the Big 12.â€￾

If true, that could explain the extra long BOC meeting today @ MU. 6 years doesn't really lock people down that hard but 13 could do it.

So...which side does Missery really stand on, the side that wants to stabilize the conference, or the side that wants to keep it off-balance so that they can accept the invite that they want with minimal cost?

Sources tell Orangebloods.com Big 12 schools were in talks starting last night to grant rights for Tier 1 & 2 TV for closer to 13 yrs.

By the way, 13 years isn't some random number. Every major conference has its TV contracts due in about a 2 year window between 2022 and 2024. The current exceptions are the Big 12 and Big 10 Tier 1 deals which will be renegotiated for Fall 2016, and the upcoming Big East deal if the Big East survives.

If we have all thought the last couple years have been realignment armageddon, it will almost assuredly take place in the early 2020's unless the Big 10 decides to kick off round 3 early in 2014-15 with their new Tier 1 deal.
